Hi I'm Steven

I love philosophy, history, literature, and music. I'm passionate about the outdoors. I love my family and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a husband to a wonderful wife and a father to an adorable one year-old. I am an attorney by profession. I love hiking, backpacking, camping, climbing, canyoneering, skiing, and anything else where I can experience the beauty of the natural world. I am obsessed with books. I Love to study philosophy, history, and science.

Why I am a Mormon

I have a testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. I believe that Christ has called apostles and prophets (imperfect but wise and good human beings) in our time in order to help us to draw closer to Him and to offer assistance as we deal with the perils of modern life. I believe that the Lord has established a church so that imperfect people can support, love, encourage, and help each other to reach our potential as well as to better this world. There are many things about this world and even about my faith that I do not understand. However, I know through personal experience that God loves me and that the Gospel is true. I have felt God's love for me so strongly that I can honestly say that I know these things as much as I know anything. Even though I don't understand everything and I have my struggles, because I know that God loves me, that is enough to give me the trust and faith that I need to follow Him in spite of any fear, doubts, or weaknesses that I have.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith by striving to love everyone, by reaching out to other people, and by relying on the Lord in my own life. It's a work in progress.

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

In my life the greatest evidence for God has been by personal encounters with His Spirit. I believe that God is real because I have directly and personally felt His love for me. I also find evidence for God in nature. While I am a lover of science and I believe that scientific theories plausibly account for the complexity of nature on their own, there is an aesthetic quality to the world that goes beyond anything that science can explain. There is a sublime beauty in nature that surpasses any intellectual understanding that I may have and testifies of a divine creator. This beauty speaks directly to my heart and tells me that God loves all of us. Show more Show less

Are Mormons Christians?

Yes. When most people think of the word “Christian,” they think of someone who believes that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior, strives to follow Christ's teachings, and seeks to have a personal relationship with the Savior. Under that definition Mormons are most certainly Christian. Most People who say that Mormons are not Christians either do not understand the LDS faith or are using a hyper-technical and complicated definition for the word “Christian,” to include such additional requirements as ascribing to a certain creed or believing that the Bible is the only way that God speaks to His children. It is true that Mormons, like any denomination, have beliefs that are unique to us. However, under most people's understanding of Christians as followers of and believers in Jesus Christ, Mormons are definitely Christians. Show more Show less
