Hi I'm Kasen

I'm a journalism student. I love to read. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm getting my undergraduate degree in history and journalism, with a minor in religious studies. I got married this summer and it's pretty much the best thing ever. I love to read. My recent favorites are John Jakes, Terry Goodkind and George R.R. Martin, though I love Frank Herbert, Robert Graves and Stephen King. I also love music. Mostly oldies: Buddy Holly, Johnny Cash, The Beatles. I work at my college bookstore and at a fast food restaurant. I love food, too. Maybe a little too much. I run a local food review blog and I love it.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because God loves me. I was raised a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but my life was by no means perfect. My Heavenly Father led me through paths of darkness and misery and saw me safely to the other side. I know Jesus Christ is my Savior, that He lives and loves me, even when I make mistakes. He is our elder Brother, our perfect example of service and love. He not only pays the price for the mistakes we make, but through the Atonement, He pushes us forward to become better people. He not only makes bad men good, He makes good men better. Sometimes life gets overwhelming going to school full time, working two jobs and starting a family, but God watches out for me. He helps me prioritize my time. The Atonement gives me the strength to make it through every day. I don't like to think where I'd be without it.

How I live my faith

I love to serve other people. My favorite are the small things, like opening doors for other people. One of the greatest examples of small acts of service is my wife. She likes to take people's garbage to the dumpster when they leave it by the door. Now that we're married, she likes to have me take other people's garbage to the dumpster. We also enjoy baking treats and giving them to people, both friends and strangers. Anonymity is our game. I think its most important to live a clean, Christ-centered life. I try to be a good example to those around me. This doesn't always include talking about the Gospel. Most of the time, it is striving to be kind to everybody and being happy. Put a smile on! Jesus lives. He leads His Church through a living prophet, Thomas S. Monson. What's cooler than that?

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

The Bible is the coolest! I love the way the Bible and the Book of Mormon complete each other. The Bible tells us about the life of Christ, and give us many wonderful examples of how to live a good life. The Book of Mormon clears up many doctrinal difficulties and enhances our reading of the Bible. The Bible contains much of the Word of God an the men who wrote it were inspired to do so.
