Hi I'm Marcus

I was raised in Aurora, Colorado. I am a student. I am a phlebotomist. I am a husband and father. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am five years married to my high school sweetheart. We have a daughter that is 18 months old and getting into everything! I make music, although I cannot boast of any proficiency. I enjoy the banjo, the harmonica, the drums and the guitar. I am decent at the guitar but nothing else. I enjoy listening to music of pretty much all kinds. I sporadically play lacrosse as a middie. I love running for exercise. My wife has gotten me into theater and dance. Not performing but watching. I really like Broadway shows. My favorites have been Wicked and Les Miserables. I recently graduated as student of Biology and Chemistry. I will start medical school this fall (2012). I enjoy pretty much everything in academics. I like history, culture, art, philosophy, science, music, language, law, politics, business, and religion. I am currently working as a phlebotomist. I am a concerned citizen and interested where the future will take my community and my nation.

Why I am a Mormon

A lot of people who go to church do so because they believe in God and they want to have friends to worship with. To some extent, this is true for me as well. However, the reason I have chosen Mormonism is because I have learned that the doctrine taught at church really affects how you live your life and how well you understand God. I believe that the doctrines taught in the Mormon Church are absolutely true. There are many ways to know something. Common ways are through a teacher or authority of some sort, intuition, trial and error, or logic and reason. All of these are methods that contribute to my confidence in Mormon teachings, however the most important to be is the Spirit of God (call it intuition is you would like). This "sense" is more real to me than any other experience. I love philosophy, science, and religion. All of them are accounted for in my world view which is possible because of my Mormon faith. I have come to understand the universe much better by combining these methods. I have sensed God communicating with me which is the most sublime experience. This is the type of understanding you can have confidence in.

How I live my faith

Like all of us, sometimes I am better at living my faith than other times. My faith is strongest when I have an attitude of service. I have compassion on people and I really want to help. For example, as a student I have a lot of opportunity to share knowledge I have with other students that may be helpful to them. It is really fun to see someone understand something that will help them on an exam. This is how I feel about sharing the Mormon message as well. It is so great to see people understand what I believe, even if they don't agree. This is how I learn about other cultures and beliefs as well. I would say that service is greatest expression of my religion. It is like having radar for helping. This makes life so fun!
