Hi I'm Derrick

I love being a husband, father, watching college football, working as a surgeon and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband and a father of three wonderful kids. I have worked as a general surgeon for the last 7 years and love to help people feel better and live a more abundant life. I recently finished my four year commitment to the USAF and had the opportunity to serve in Operation Iraqi Freedom for 5 months. It was a pleasure to treat our injured troops. I love to work in our yard/garden and see the "fruits of our labors". It is amazing to see all of the various and beautiful plants our Heavenly Father has created for our use/enjoyment. I am truly a sports fanatic from watching my kids to competing myself. I most recently found a passion for cycling.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in an LDS home but the decision to follow the example of Jesus Christ and be baptized was my own. I distinctly remember my baptism date...from the weather to the water temperature, but most importantly I remember the warm feeling of approval and my desire to always have this feeling with me. My conversion has been a slow but constant accumulation of spiritual knowledge confirmed to be true by the Holy Ghost. I acknowledge that I am imperfect and can't return to live with my Heavenly Father unless I accept the power of the Atonement in my life. I have found the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ provides me the foundation on how to be a better husband, father and friend. Being a Mormon is not exclusive rather inclusive and these teachings are available to all of our Heavenly Father's children regardless of country, ethnicity or gender. I am grateful for a living prophet and apostles who guide us and bring stability in a stormy sea of turmoil/confusion. The Holy Scriptures (Bible and Book of Mormon) bring me strength and confirms the divinity of Jesus Christ as our redeemer and advocate with Heavenly Father. All religions have pieces of truth and promote good throughout a world becoming more wicked on a daily basis. I believe the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints contains the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ restored in its entirety to help all return to their Father in Heaven. A former Latter Day Prophet, Gordon B. Hinckley invited all to bring the truths which you have and let us add to them. May you find joy in your journey.

How I live my faith

My philosophy is simple: to give my heart to Jesus Christ through simple acts of service. I know when I go by assignment to fulfill a Priesthood duty, the Holy Ghost will attend me and ratify my service. By feeling the influence of the Holy Ghost in my life, I know at least during those times, the Atonement is working to help purify my imperfect soul.
