Hi I'm Scott

I grew up Mormon, mostly in Colorado, where I live to this day with my family.

About Me

I'm the oldest of 10 children. I am also a dad to four wonderful daughters. I went to college at Brigham Young University, where I graduated in 2002 with a degree in Computer Science. I currently work as a web programmer at a research organization affiliated with the University of Colorado. I like to referee sports; currently, I referee football at the high school level (from freshman to varsity). I enjoy reading when I can find time, both fiction and books related to programming. I also enjoy playing board games and video games with friends and family.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I grew up as a Mormon, there came a time when I was in my late teens where I needed to find things out for myself, especially as I prepared to go off to college. I prayed about it, and I liked the direction it gave me in my life, helping me avoid the evils that abound in the world today. In college, I took a class about the Book of Mormon, and as part of that class, I read the entire Book of Mormon from beginning to end. Although I grew up reading bits and pieces of it, this was the first time I ever read the entire book. Reading the book was very enlightening, and because of it, I decided to really make an effort to get an answer from the Lord as to whether it was indeed true. Through prayer and fasting, I felt the Holy Ghost touch my heart. As I later served a mission in Massachusetts, I had the opportunity to read the Book of Mormon several more times, and every time, the same spirit touched me at my very core, and I found myself trying to relate more with those followers of Christ of old, both from the Book of Mormon and the Bible. Since then, I've continued to see the many ways the Lord touches his people, even in cases where it's not obvious at first, and as I do, my testimony of Him and His Gospel grows.

How I live my faith

Over the past few years, there have been several families moving into or out of the area, some of whom were members of the local congregation, and even a few who weren't. When able, I have tried to assist with these moves. I also currently teach a Sunday School class for the 3-4 year olds. While the lessons we teach at that age are very basic, I've found myself being reminded of those basics and how they can help us all be happier; we teach the children about sharing, forgiveness, the world around us, and loving one another.
