Hi I'm Donalyn

I'm a wife, mom, a music therapist and a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a mother of a beautiful, precocious, little girl who is absolutely delighted with the prospect of being a big sister soon to her new baby brother! I've also been a music therapist at a local hospital for more than 12 years now and love that I get to be both a mom and a music therapist! I have a fantastic husband with whom I share this wonderful adventure of life and we truly enjoy having my parents living with us. I enjoy making food - cooking, baking, canning, etc. I love traveling and have had the privilege visiting many wonderful places. Some of my favorites have been Israel, Tahiti, and Uruguay. I enjoy viewing life as an adventure and while there are many challenges that come along the way, I have learned to welcome those along with the great things because they all contribute to making me the person God has in mind for me to become!

Why I am a Mormon

While my parents taught me the concepts and doctrines of the church as a very small child, my faith in a loving, caring God has developed over the years as I have seen His hand in guiding my life. I remember vividly wondering as a teenager, as I am confident that many people do, if there was really anyone out there that loved and knew me. There were people I knew loved me (parents, siblings, etc.) but I felt as though they didn't really know me well, since I didn't really know myself. I went on an outing into the mountains with my church group and they gave each of us some time to sit by ourselves, read scriptures, and pray. During that quiet time, out in nature, as I knelt and asked God to tell me He was there, I felt a peace, a love, a feeling of calm wash over me, almost like a wave, and I knew in that moment, God knew me, loved me and had a plan for my life. I've had many instances over the years similar to that one, in different stages of my life, that helped me know that God is truly aware of me, knows me, wants the best for me, and will teach me and help me grow in wisdom and knowledge, if I just let Him!

How I live my faith

I enjoy reading from the scriptures each day and feeling of God's love for me and what he has to teach me. I truly appreciated the opportunity to teach people in Uruguay about my beliefs as a missionary many years ago. I continue to feel great joy in being able to share with all those around me, the hope and happiness I have in my life. The sense of purpose and direction that I feel each day when I wake up, knowing God has a plan for me is what helps me get through those tough days and challenging times. Taking time each day to reflect on all the great things in my life is an important aspect of living my faith to me. I am also grateful to be able to direct the choir for our congregation. Already knowing the power of music from my profession, the happiness, joy, and uplifting feelings that can come from worship through music is amazing and I'm thrilled to be able to help facilitate that!
