Hi I'm Laura

I am a full-time missionary in the Taiwan, Taipei area. I love exploring new places and trying new things. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in the Northwestern region of Washington state. I am currently on an eighteen-month mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Taipei, Taiwan, and have never been more excited and challenged in my life! Studying Mandarin Chinese language and experiencing first-hand a brand new culture is amazing, and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ as a missionary is an unparalleled opportunity I wouldn't trade for anything in the world. Before I left for Taiwan, I was a normal undergraduate student juggling part-time jobs, homework, and a social life. In between studies and work, I loved spending time outdoors, writing poetry, dancing, reading, learning, and exploring in general. I have been studying Justice, Law and Society and hope to attend law school after I get back to the United States. I also enjoyed practicing yoga, and running a small, part-time photography business still in its younger years of developing.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day saints because it teaches the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I have yet to encounter a church that teaches a better way to find true happiness through a knowledge of and relationship with our savior. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is designed to guide every individual to gain light in their lives, find true happiness, and develop an ever-growing knowledge of real principles that shape and govern our existence. Most importantly, the church is set up to teach us how to develop a relationship with and better emulate Jesus Christ. I am grateful for knowledge of the Savior and His love for all mankind. My faith in Him and obedience to His laws are what continually bring me joy and peace in what is often an unstable, uncertain world.

How I live my faith

I currently live my faith as a full-time missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Every day I have the opportunity to meet and talk with people on the streets of Taiwan. I am responsible for leading a beginners' English class once a week and teaching gospel lessons to those who want to know more about Jesus Christ and our faith. Every morning I wake up at 6:30 am to prepare for 3 hours of scripture and language study. Throughout the rest of my day I talk to people on the street and meet with those who want to know more about the beautiful message of truth, love, and peace the gospel has to offer. As a full-time missionary I do this every day of the week but for one that is set aside to purchase groceries, do laundry, and other necessary tasks to prepare for the rest of the week. All these experiences remind me on a daily basis to continuously try to live as Christ would, thereby living my faith more fully every day.
