Hi I'm Bill

I'm a Mormon. I attended a Seminary to be a Catholic Priest. I converted to the LDS faith. I backpack and do photography.

About Me

I am married to a wonderful woman and am the father of six outstanding children and 24 wonderful grand children. Family means everything to me. I am medically retired but I have not given up on life. I am active in the Church and also with the Boy Scouts of America. I still go camping and backpacking. Photography, reading and writing are my hobbies. Studying the scriptures is my most favorite passion. I enjoy other hobbies also such as studying about edible plants, wilderness survival, wood crafts and emergency preparedness. I especially enjoy photographing wildlife and shooting pictures of God's creations in both macro and wide angle pictures of landscape photography. I have had a very active background from serving in Vietnam as a Marine, to sales and marketing to law enforcement. Along my career path I met many wonderful people and worked with some of the finest Americans our country has to offer. In my younger years I was an athlete and competed in both running events and swimming events. I also liked physical exercise be it hiking, biking, spelunking, or climbing. These activities led to many personal challenges which I had to overcome, such as fear of heights and claustrophobia. Although I have had my share of hardships, I love life. I try to live life to the fullest. I still struggle with certain issues, but I am not a quitter, I am a person who does his best to not let things keep me down. I usually give 110% effort. With the Gospel I can't go wrong!

Why I am a Mormon

I have chosen to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because of the feelings it makes me feel inside, and because of the results of a personal in depth study of the gospel which confirmed to me that it is in fact the Lord's church here on the earth. The Holy Ghost has further borne witness to me of it's truthfulness. My upbringing was that of a Catholic Church member. My parents and sisters were all Catholic as were my grandparents and my Aunt and Uncle on my mom's side of the family. We were active attending members. I attended catechism, and was an Alter Boy. I attended a Catholic Seminary to study to become a Catholic Priest and a Catholic High School as well. I was later married in the Catholic Church. Later in life I started having questions that could not be answered by my Catholic Priest to my satisfaction. I searched for answers and in my search found that one of my best friends who I later found out belonged to this church knew the answers. Some of my questions were, where did I come from, why am I here and where am I going? Also I wanted to know why we did not marry for all eternity instead of until death do us part? At Christ's baptism, The Father , the Son and the Holy Ghost were three distinct persons. Proof was when the Father said, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." When I learned that there were many other places where the Savior for told of His coming, I was enlightened. My friend told me about the Book of Mormon and the prophecies of that work, even a marvelous work and a wonder. He told me about the great apostasy and the falling away from the truth. He told me about the need for and the existence of a living Prophet today and a need for a restoration of all things, not a reformation but a restoration. My wife and I met with missionaries who told us even more and who challenged us to pray to get our answers. My wife and I prayed and we did get our answers. We were baptized.

How I live my faith

When we were baptized, I was challenged to stay close to my leaders and to to follow correct principles. I have done this every since we were baptized. The years have passed and we have both served in many church callings. I currently serve in several callings at the same time. I am active in the Boy Scouting program for our congregation and currently serve as a Scout Committee Chairman. This is a fun calling and I serve the youth and the adults of the Scouting program. I also serve as an Emergency Preparedness Coordinator for our area. This involves writing a monthly newsletter on emergency preparedness and helping families be prepared for disasters and emergencies. Finally I am a home teacher companion My companion and I visit a few families in our congregation every month and do what we can to strengthen them and help them, and be there as a friend when they need one. I attend all of my Church meetings. This has kept my testimony strong. I also read from the scriptures daily and write in my personal journal every day. We have daily family prayer and husband wife prayer and weekly enjoy Family Home Evening. I am a good citizen and obey the laws of the land. Living my faith and being a good Christian is very important to me. I love my family, my Church and my God.
