Hi I'm Tanner

I'm an advertising student. I love trying new things. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

On paper, I might seem like a typical "Utah Mormon." Born in Provo while my parents were attending BYU, raised in this church along with my five younger siblings, participated in Boy Scouts and the rest of it, served a mission after graduating from Lehi High School (go pioneers), is now studying at BYU, and finally, is anxious to be engaged and one day have six kids of his own. You know—the classic Mormon story. The kind that no one would really live unless they were completely taken by the system and insulated by the Utah bubble. All of those things may be true (though six kids is definitely a high estimate), but I feel like it doesn't represent me very well. Most of my life I lived in Seattle (7 years) and northern Colorado (also seven years). It was during this time that I learned to read, learned to make friends, learned to think critically, experienced adolescence, and found out for myself that everything I had been taught about this church was really true. Most of my friends held beliefs which were very different from mine. That was fine. I learned to question, and I also learned the ultimate source of answers. I developed a love for scriptures and prayer. I learned that Truth, real truth, is the same for everyone and God wants us to know it. I am now studying advertising at BYU, something which I hope will help me make the world a better place. Everyone is different, but everyone has the same need for truth. And we all have the same Father to get it from.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because that's what I've always been, but more than that, because it gives me answers. Because of my religion, I know what can be in store for me. When I get caught up in the struggles of just living life, I can always keep things in perspective by remembering what's important. Like our families and our relationships with them and with our Heavenly Father. Also, it helps me remember how decisions I have now can affect my entire life, and beyond. My religion helps me to be the best I can be. I don't know where I'd be without my faith. Maybe I'd be just fine, but then, who actually aspires to be "fine"? Because I'm a Mormon, I know exactly what it takes to have an amazing life. I have a fantastic support system, awesome role models, and a great road map. I'm a Mormon for all the above reasons, but mostly, I'm a Mormon because I know its true. The feeling I get just from typing that sentence is indescribable. I honestly cannot imagine a better way anyone could live their life; I'm so glad I have this opportunity to belong to the true church of Jesus Christ in these, the last days.

How I live my faith

I live my faith in many ways. A large part of my faith which I have really focused on in the last several years is reading from the scriptures consistently every day. What I have found to be particularly enriching is to read the Book of Mormon in conjunction with the Old and New Testaments. This has really helped strengthen my testimony of the divinity of these sacred books and also the clear and straightforward nature of the Book of Mormon. I have also really gained a testimony of the strength that comes from consistent, daily study of the word of God. Since I began reading every day, I have noticed a change in my perspective and outlook on life. I have become happier and more easygoing. I have more confidence in the Plan our Father in heaven has for us. I highly recommend the practice of daily scripture study. As a missionary, I have the chance to devote all of my time to the gospel. I can do this by serving the Lord through serving those around me. I spend time in sincere, faithful prayer throughout the day on behalf of myself, those I teach, and others. This really helps me stay focused on my purpose as a missionary, which is to invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end. In general, I just live my faith by being the best person I can be. I do my best to be nice to other people and live like any good Christian should. I'm so glad I'm a member of His church.
