Hi I'm Marisel

I grew up in Panama. I like to cycle, swim and do yoga. I teach Montessori education and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I moved to America by myself at 22 looking to get better education. I was able to study a Master in Education in Maryland and became a Montessori Primary Teacher. I love my job and I love my children. I am very close with family even though they all live in Panama. It's hard for them and for me to be separated, but we try to keep our love and communication intact. We talk on the phone, Skype and visit each other as much as we can. I enjoy swimming, cycling and yoga. My favorite thing to do though, is traveling to different places. I love to learn about new cultures, try the regional food, hear the music, learn the language, wear the traditional clothes and then share a little bit of my own culture. No surprise then that the first song I teach my children is "It's a Small World"!

Why I am a Mormon

My mom was a member of the church since before she had me, but I only went to an LDS church a few times during my childhood. I thought that because I knew a little bit about it, I knew everything I needed to know. Boy, I was wrong! At age 20 my immediate family started to receive missionaries in our home and I thought they were fun to talk to, but that was it. I was very lucky they were always around, because I realized very soon, that I really didn't know what the Church was all about. I became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because I finally was able to have a real personal relationship with my Heavenly Father and my Savior Jesus Christ. I live my live with the gospel, and I live the gospel with joy!

How I live my faith

I have moved counties, states, cities and homes continuously for the past 5 years. I am so glad that wherever I go, I always find a church building I can go to, and that I always find the nicest people in the world in every one of them. I love to go to church activities where I can meet other young adults that have similar life experiences to mine. I met my best friends in church activities, and they have become my home away from home. Now I get to help organize some church events for young adults in our ward. I try to put a lot of thought and work into it because I want everyone to meet their future best friends too!
