Hi I'm Monica

I'm a scuba diver. I'm a skier. I play piano and guitar. I'm a high school student, a sister and a daughter. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've been a member of the LDS church all my life. I attend a religious class (known as seminary) every morning before school with all of my church friends. I enjoy high school and especially love math. I've been scuba diving since I was 12 and skiing since I was 3. I love exciting things, such as bungee jumping and ziplining. I really care about my school work and I try to challenge myself with hard classes. I plan to attend college at BYU and possibly serve a mission when I am 21. I have a baby sister who I love to hang out with. I have played piano for 6 years and enjoy it a lot. I have also learned to play the organ a little bit. I've started learning to play the guitar using utube videos. I love country music and pop songs too. I'm kind of shy, but I enjoy hanging out with my friends and attending youth activities at church.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a mormon because I believe in all the teachings of the church. I love reading the stories in the Book of Mormon and I have a testimony that the Book of Mormon is true. I also like the standards that the church teaches because they define me as a person. I enjoy staying modest and clean. Even though others don't believe what I believe, I still like to follow the standards of the church because I believe that is what Heavenly Father wants me to do. I'm grateful to know that families can be together forever. I recently had an uncle pass away and this knowledge was a great comfort to me and my family.I know that Joseph Smith was a true prophet. I know that Thomas S. Monson is the prophet today. I know that Jesus Christ atoned for our sins. I know this church is true and I'm glad I'm a part of it.

How I live my faith

I attend church every Sunday with my family. I attend an early morning religious class (seminary) each day before school where I study the scriptures and it helps me start out my day with a good attitude. I participate in the Young Women (youth) program at church. I attend weekly activities with the youth and girls camp during the summer. I'm currently working on a goal program, called Personal Progress. In this program, we have 8 10-hour projects we need to complete along with 46 smaller goals. The last project I completed was organizing a blood drive with my friend. We had 60 people donate blood. I really enjoyed helping the community in this way. It made me feel good that 180 lives could be saved from our blood drive. At school I try to stand for what I believe in even if I'm standing alone. I try to be honest in all that I do and be the best young woman I can be.

Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

Monica
We don't drink coffee, tea or alcohol because the prophet has told us not to and he receives revelation directly from Heavenly Father. Also, these things have been proven to be harmful to our bodies. For example, the caffeine in coffee and tea can cause different health problems, alcohol can make people do stupid things that can even result in injury or death. In the church we have a revelation given through Joseph Smith called The Word of Wisdom that explains what we should and shouldn't do to take care of our bodies. Many think of the Word of Wisdom as a list of restrictions, but there are actually more positive recommendations than negative restrictions. For example, The Word of Wisdom advises us to eat plenty of grains and get a good amount of sleep. If you want to learn more about the Word of Wisdom, you can read Doctrine and Covenants section 89.
