Hi I'm Corliss

I'm a Mormon. I am a mother of 7 children and 22 grandchildren

About Me

I am a sister, a mother and a grandmother. I enjoy sewing, camping and spending time with my children and grandchildren. I am happy and content to be living in this day and time with the fullness of the gospel in my life. I adore my husband of 40 years. He is my best friend. I had a wonderful childhood with lots of cousins and extended family everywhere and that is exactly the kind of experiences I want to give my own family. I have 7 children and 22 grandchildren and it is a noisy gathering when we are all together. Once a year, the daughters get together and do holiday crafts and bond. We find many opportunities to be together as a family even though there may be miles between us. I am happiest when we are together

Why I am a Mormon

When I was born, my father was a Mormon and my mother was Protestant. When I was 5 my mother joined the Mormon Church and I still remember the lessons that were taught as the missionaries sat in our living room. I remember family discussions about the gospel as my aunts and uncles would sit in our home or their homes and talk about the principals they would learn as they read from the bible and the Book or Mormon. These discussions would last for 2-3 hours. It was a wonderful memory and a great bonding time with extended family but most importantly, it would raise questions in my mind about who I was, where I came from and the most important question, ‘who is my Heavenly Father and how am I suppose to know him?’ When I was 5 or 6 I remember sitting on my swing and starring up at the beautiful clouds and wondering where Heaven was and if Jesus could see me. I would often talk to Him or sing a favorite song I learned at church about Him. I would look at pictures of Him and study His face. I gazed into his eyes hoping that at some miraculous moment He would gaze back. It wasn’t until I was much older that I would come to understand how much my relationship with Him would mean to me personally as I raised and tried to direct the lives of my own 7 children. It is through learning and living the principals of the gospel of Jesus Christ that has brought me the peace and understanding to move through life’s challenges. I know deep within my heart that we have a Savior and that he hears and answers prayers. He knows us and He knows our sorrows, our joys and our desires. It is through reading the Book of Mormon and the Bible that I find answers to many of my questions about life, family and personal happiness. Being a member of this church has brought me simplicity, understanding and peace in a complicated world.

How I live my faith

I and my husband have served 2 missions and loved every minute. One mission was in Asia and the other near by helping the homeless. We enjoy working in our ward with those persons who are learning and trying to understand the gospel. I have worked with youth for many years and enjoyed their enthusiasm and energy. I love getting to know the ladies in our ward and their interests and personalities. I currently work on a committee that hosts an event for women every month in our building. It may include women's health, service such as blankets for homeless shelters, meal preparation, gardening, food storage and summer ideas to keep children entertained. These are just a few of the classes that have been offered. Every Sunday, I attend a class that teaches only to the women of our ward. It is a spiritual lesson that lifts and encourages us as we move day to day in our lives. These lessons are taught by very capable and loving ladies that live within our ward. There is much preparation, study and prayer that goes into each lesson and these lessons have been outlined and approved for teaching. There is alot a woman can do in this church to fulfil her need for service. Meals may be needed as new babies are born, surgeries are scheduled or just a listening ear when spirits are low. I love the service I can do and what I can fill my life with by serving my neighbors and friends.
