Hi I'm Denae

I'm a white water raft guide, ski instructor, a massage therapist and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am one of 7 kids in a family of 9 (3 older and 3 younger). My parents are still happily married and live in a small town in IL where I spent most of my childhood. After High School, I started guiding rivers all over the country and even some in Central America. When I wasn’t traveling to a new river, I was either teaching skiing, or on call for national disasters (I drive a 4,000 gallon water truck). I started out by being a wild land fire fighter, but then after going to Hurricane Katrina I decided to contract for all government agencies as a water tender. I was born in the LDS church and was very happy with it while I lived at home, through all of my travels and adventures I lost the happiness that the gospel brought me, but I wasn’t aware of it until I was about 30 years old, when I had a spiritual moment that helped me remember what was most important to me… my relationship with my creator.

Why I am a Mormon

About 5 years ago I was reading a book that had me question some things I had not ever questioned before. Some of these questions I had are: “Where do I come from?”, “What is my purpose?”, “If I did not create myself, then who or what created me?” “How can I know my true purpose, unless I am able to communicate with my creator?” After pondering these questions, I decided to humble myself and pray to my Heavenly Father for the first time in over 10 years. I was filled with this spirit that was so overwhelming that I knew without a doubt that I had a Heavenly Father that loved me and wanted me to be happy. I knew that he was my creator and that if I followed his teachings, and kept him close to my heart, then I would know my purpose. I visited many other religious organizations with an open heart and mind, but it wasn’t until I read the Book of Mormon that I knew with all my heart that the fullness of the gospel was right in front of me my whole life. Since then I finished school, got married, and am now expecting my first baby boy. I still have a very active life, but it is far more exciting now that I have a family that I love with all my heart to share my life’s journey with.

How I live my faith

After spending most of my adult life living for myself and thinking mostly about what would make me the happiest. I now know that I was going about it all wrong. I feel that I am most fulfilled when I am serving others. One of my favorite quotes is from a brilliant book written by Neil A. Maxwell, All these things shall give the experience, “a self-criticizing thought is a selfish thought”. I don’t ever want to forget the spirit I felt when I was searching for truth, so I try to keep my Heavenly Father, his son Jesus Christ and the holy ghost in my heart always by doing the best I can to keep the commandments, following the examples of Christ and study the holy scriptures and words of the profits.
