Hi I'm Jacob

I'm a 2-time national taekwondo sparring champion. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am husband and new father. Growing up, I worked in the family martial arts business. This gave us the opportunity to travel to many different locations for competitions. After High School, I played a couple years of baseball in college. The last 2 years I worked while going to school and graduated. I now work full-time to provide for my family and have recently returned to school part-time for a Masters degree. My wife and I are avid frisbee throwers, just in the park, and pretend we are really good. We enjoy doing anything that is active, and my wife has recently taught me the art of the volleyball spike. We love seeing wholesome movies in the theater together and talking over dinner for our weekly date nights.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was in High School, I received a blessing from my father. In that blessing, I was promised certain things, which my father told me were promises directly from our Heavenly Father. These blessings were contingent upon me living in a way which was in harmony with the teaching of Jesus Christ. Time past and one night I remember contemplating why I had not received the blessing promised in the blessing from my father. As I pondered on this, I had the impression to open my Book of Mormon. I picked up my book and randomly opened to a page and read the first words I saw. Tears filled my eyes as I read these words (Alma chapter 37, verses 16-17). "But if ye keep the commandments of God, and do with these things which are sacred according to that which the Lord doth command you...behold, no power of earth or hell can take them from you, for God is powerful to the fulfilling of all his words. For he will fulfill all his promises which he shall make unto you, for he has fulfilled his promises which he has made unto our fathers." I do not believe it was coincidence that out of the 6,600 verses in the Book of Mormon, I turned to two verses which directly spoke of God's promises. More of a testimony was the radiating love I felt from God while I read these words. I knew when He was ready, He would fulfill the promised blessings. From that day, I have tried to live in a way which would please our Heavenly Father. This has brought my family countless blessings and we have truly felt His presence in our lives.

How I live my faith

I teach 11-12 year olds in church each week. We teach them of the importance of Christ in our lives and how he is essential to our salvation. We teach him that there is no other way to return to our Heavenly Father, but by him. I also work in the scouting program each week, where we also incorporate the importance of God in our lives.
