Hi I'm Amanda

I'm a wife. I'm a 911 operator, singer, and outdoor enthusiast.

About Me

I just received my Associate's Degree from a community college. I grew up in Colorado. I'm the oldest of four: two sisters and a brother. I married my sweetheart in May 2011, and we are beginning our adventure together. I am a 911 operator, and I absolutely love my job. It can be challenging at times, but my faith in Jesus Christ helps me get through it. I'm a Colorado native, and so I enjoy most outdoor activities, including camping, snowboarding, hunting, and wakeboarding. I play the piano and enjoy singing and sharing my talents with others. I have just recently started working on my "domestic" skills by learning how to cook and sew.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the Church, but not in the typical LDS family. My mom was a member, but my dad was not baptized until I was twelve years old. I always attended church when I was younger, but when I graduated high school, I had a year of rebellion. During this year, I was extremely unhappy. I wasn't living in accordance with the standards and principles I had been taught my entire life. One morning, I woke up and knew I had to change. I realized that if I wanted to be strong, I had to gain my own testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I set out on my own personal conversion, and found that as I did so, the happiness and love I felt in my life was beyond description. As I set out on my own personal conversion, I was grateful for the opportunity I had to learn for myself that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is truly Christ's church today. I do NOT believe because I blindly follow the things I am told by Church leaders. I have gained a testimony, for myself, through significant study and prayer. I was able to read the Bible and Book of Mormon, pray, and know that the words written in them are true for myself. I know President Thomas S. Monson is the prophet for the world today through prayer and a witness from the Holy Ghost. I also know Joseph Smith was a prophet, called of God to restore the Church to the Earth in these latter days. He truly did see God, The Eternal Father, and His Son, Jesus Christ. It just makes sense! God is a never-changing God. He has sent prophets to the Earth before to communicate His will, and He does so now. Jesus Christ called 12 Apostles while He was in His ministry on Earth, and it makes sense that He would do so now. This Church makes you a better person all around. It brings you closer to Christ, and enables you to learn and know the things that need to be done to live with God again someday.

How I live my faith

I live my faith every day, in everything I do. I refrain from drinking coffee and tea, as well as other addictive substances. I also refrain from using foul language and foul subjects. I try to provide little acts of service to people throughout the day. I try to be friendly to everyone I meet, and love them as Christ does. In an ever increasingly evil world, I gain my strength through daily scripture study and prayer. I rely on my Heavenly Father for peace, comfort, hope. Because I hear so many bad things at work, it could be easy for me to lose my hope and faith, but I have found as I pray not only for my strength, but also for God to strengthen each person I talk to during the day that is struggling, my faith in God and my hope in His power grows stronger.

What blessings can we receive through the gift of the Holy Ghost?

Amanda
I have witnessed the blessings of the Holy Ghost in my life. There have been many times that I have needed the blessings of comfort and peace. As I said a prayer to ask my Heavenly Father for these things, I felt the calming influence of the Holy Ghost in my heart. My mind was enlightened, and I knew the things I needed to do to accomplish my goals. There have also been times of danger in my life where I felt certain action was needed to ensure the safety of a loved one. As I acted on this feeling, I knew that the prompting came from the Holy Ghost, and that my loved one's safety was a result of that prompting. Show more Show less

How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

Amanda
I think the best way to stop the spread and influence of pornography is to be open and honest about the subject. Satan thrives on the secrecy and stigma surrounding the pornography business. Those who are addicted to pornography feel they are going to be judged and shunned if they admit they have a problem. If the stigma that "pornography addicts are bad people" was eliminated, they would be able to get the help they needed without feeling embarassed, hurt, or scared.
