Hi I'm Darren

I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

About Me

I work at an ad agency, spend my Saturdays at the kid's soccer games and my wife and I like to travel. I live in Arizona (the warmer, less-cool version of California). I pay for a gym membership but rarely go, and I like to "use" unnecessary quotes when I write.

Why I am a Mormon

A friend of mine once asked me if my parents were Mormon (which they are). He thought I was a member of this church because it was a family tradition. In truth, this is a high-commitment religion. It is a lifestyle that tends to weed out those who aren't convinced it is the same church established by Jesus Christ when he was on the earth, restored through modern-day prophets. This conviction didn't come to me through my family, but through an honest, prayerful inquiry to God when I was a young adult.

How I live my faith

For the past eight years I have worked as a scout leader. Every member of the church gets an assignment since we don't have a paid clergy. You don't get to pick your assignment, it is given to you by the leader of your congregation (Bishop). To be candid, I'm not much of a camper and it eats up hours after work and on weekends, but I do enjoy it. I learn a lot from the scouts and have three of my own boys in the program. We support scouting because its principles are aligned with our own. Teaching young men to be honest, to serve, to love their country...good stuff that sets them up to be better husbands, dads and members of society.
