Hi I'm Sondra

I grew up in California. I've moved many different places. I've had tough times, but in the process I've found God. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a mom who loves life, loves Jesus Christ and loves my family. Being a mom of seven children has been the best and hardest job I've ever had, but my children have taught me more than I ever imagined, and I've felt more joy than I thought possible. My husband is my very best friend. We've moved 14 times around the United States and have grown to love many different people and cultures. I have had miscarriages, health problems that took years to diagnose and resolve, many years of great health, children with amazing talents, children with physical/chemical challenges, great concerns, and answers to prayers. I'm over 50 years old, so I've experienced enough of life to know that it's not easy. But in the process, I have also come to know with a depth of surety difficult to express, that I'm not alone. I have come to know a very personal, loving Father in Heaven who cares for me and has a plan for my happiness. I have learned that when I follow His directions, counsel and commandments, I find peace and joy. It's not the kind of "happiness" that comes from everything going well in my life or from having everything I want. It's the kind that lasts, the kind that gives me a firm foundation amidst the "earthquakes" of life, or that is like an anchor in the midst of a stormy or calm sea.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because I have done what Christ said to do. He taught that we can "know them by their fruit." I have tasted the fruit, and it is delicious. I have attended the Mormon church ever since I was born. I have gone through the wonderful programs for children and the incredible programs for youth. In these programs, I was taught that I am a child of God, and that I can pray to Him anytime, anywhere. I was taught that He knows me and loves me unconditionally and infinitely. I was also taught that being on earth is part of His plan for my eternal happiness. I have learned from being taught and from experience that following God's commandments actually protects me from a lot of sorrow and unhappiness, and that obedience brings blessings. "Tasting the fruit" has meant attending church, participating in the activities, reading and pondering the writings of prophets in the Old & New Testaments and in another testament of Christ [The Book of Mormon], and personal, daily communication with my Heavenly Father. The greatest blessing I have recieved from "tasting the fruit" has been the unmistakeable witness that has come to me through the impressions of the Holy Ghost that Jesus Christ is real. I KNOW that He is REAL. I KNOW He lived a perfect life to show us how to live, and He suffered for our sins, pains and sorrows. I KNOW He did that for ME. I KNOW He did that for everyone who ever existed on earth. Because of that knowledge, I feel His all encompasssing love for me and for you. I HAVE HOPE. I KNOW that Heavenly Father accepts my imperfect efforts to be like His Son, Jesus. I KNOW He is like a loving parent who helps his toddler stand up when he falls. I know He reaches out to me to help me, and that He wants me to succeed. I have FELT that SO strongly. It has given me so much peace, hope and joy. I wish everyone could feel that. I have "tasted" the teachings and doctrines, and I KNOW they are truth.

How I live my faith

Because of my beliefs, my focus in life is different. My goal is lasting joy, not temporary happiness. Joy comes from obeying God and becoming like His Son. So I try to create in my home the best environment for my family to feel God's love and peace. Besides that, I try to help everyone to feel Christ's love for them. If I didn't have temporal things to take care of, I would love to spend my day telling every living person about God's plan for our happiness. I would try to help everyone come to know their Loving Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. As a family, we try to live what we believe. We begin and end each day with personal and family prayer. We thank our Father in Heaven for our incredible blessings, and we ask Him for the help we need in our lives. We pray for each other. Together, we read the Holy Bible and Book of Mormon and take turns sharing what we learned. These activities focus us on our real purpose for being on earth and draw us closer to our Father in Heaven and Savior, Jesus Christ. They also help "arm" us for the challenges, temptations, and dangers we will face during the day. Nightly, we have family dinner and family prayer. Weekly we have a family night, attend church and spend time serving the other members. My husband leads several congregations and spends most of his free time helping and counseling members. I teach the 16-17 year old girls. I LOVE teaching them. I love feeling God's love for them and seeing them learn to feel that themselves. I also participate in several service organizations. I live the church's health code. I avoid alcohol, tobacco, coffee and any addicting substance. I try to fill my mind with positive and compassionate thoughts. I study the scriptures. I LOVE how God communicates to my soul as I read them with a question in my mind. He has answered so many questions. He has taught me. He has helped me see my errors. He has filled my soul with His peace and His love that "passeth all understanding."
