Hi I'm Wanda

I grew up in Snowflake, AZ. I love people, books, travel, music, flowers, games and, oh yes, even chocolate! I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a Mom and a Grandma! Most of my adult life I was fortunate enough to be a stay-at home Mom, but I also taught school and worked as a secretary. As a stay-at-home Mom, I tutored reading and taught piano to beginners. I was a wife for 31 years before my husband passed away with cancer. I love to spend time with my family, my friends, reading books, playing the piano and playing board games. My very favorite games are word games like Scrabble and Quiddler. Sometimes I play Scrabble by myself! And that's without the computer...even though I play on the computer and my Kindle too, I like to play with friends the most. I enjoy playing mostly classical piano by such composers as Dubusey, Chopin, Bach and others. I love to play piano duets with one of my sisters or friends. A few books I have recently read are "The Unbroken" by Laura Hillenbrand; "Same Kind of Different As Me" by Ron Hall and Denver Moore; and "Fire in the Bones" by S. Michael Wilcox. I like to travel with family or friends. I also volunteer to work in our Temple one evening/night a week. And, of course, the grandchildren take a high priority whenever possible. All of the above is better with just a little bit of chocolate!

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I believe in the doctrine and principles The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints professes. Yes, I was born into an LDS family and have always been a practicing member, but I don't think I would be active today if I had not come to know for myself that this Church follows the same principles that Jesus taught and instituted when he was here on earth. In short, I have a testimony that this Church adheres to true doctrine and I believe that Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer. Above and beyond that, belonging to the Mormon Church has helped me in so many ways to be a better mother, daughter, sister, friend and person. Living the principles of the Gospel of Jesus Christ helps me to be happy, to have hope in the future... and, through my Savior, to have peace in a world filled with turmoil and challenges. I love life and I love being a Mormon!

How I live my faith

Our Church is organized and run by the individuals that belong to it. I have enjoyed many different jobs or "callings" over the years. I have taught children, youth and adults, been in various leadership positions and served on a variety of different committees. It is amazing to me all the things that these service opportunities have taught ME. I have been the great benefactor, much more than those I have served! Over the years I have been a "visiting teacher," and right now I visit three different ladies in our Ward (a geographical division) at least once a month. I go with another lady in our Ward and we make a short visit to these individuals in their own homes. We learn to love them and try to help them when they are in need with anything from taking in dinner, giving them a ride to the airport, or comforting a broken heart. This is a wonderful program that helps each of us cope with the challenges of life. I know that when my husband passed away, my visiting teachers, and many other friends in my Ward helped me so much with physical, emotional and spiritual needs! Being in a Ward is like having a large extended family to help and love one another!
