Hi I'm Chris

I'm a Husband, a Father of Five, a Police Officer, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy spending time outdoors and really enjoy fishing although it seems like life gets busy and I don't get a chance to fish as much as I would like. I served a full time mission for the Mormon Church in South Florida and the Bahamas. I graduated from college with a degree in Justice Studies in 1993. I then became a police officer. I have spent the last 17 years in law enforcement serving as a police officer, field training officer, sex crimes detective, patrol sergeant, and criminal investigations sergeant. I have been married to the love of my life for 21 years and we have five beautiful children that we are raising.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a convert to the Mormon Church. I was raised in a family that did not follow any organized religion, although I always felt that my family believed in God. At the age of 15, my grandfather passed away suddenly after being diagnosed with cancer. I was very close with my grandfather and his passing raised many questions for me about the purpose of life and what happens to us after death. I had an experience with his passing that brought me to a knowledge that life does continue after death. This experience raised questions for me. I wanted to know exactly what happens to us and what the purpose of life really was. I had many close friends who were Mormon but we never really talked about their beliefs. Unknown to my friends, I came into contact with the Mormon missionaries and they began teaching me about Heavenly Father and about Jesus Christ. They explained the plan that God has for each of us. The things that they taught me felt like things I had already known about. These principles seemed familiar to me, like I had known about them before, despite never having had any religious training. After learning about the church and its teachings there was no question that I had been taught true principles. I joined the church! What a surprise to my Mormon friends who didn't know I had been meeting with the missionaries. In reality, although my friends did not share their beliefs with me verbally, they shared their beliefs with me in the way they lived their life and the examples they set. There was something different about them. I felt different when I was around them and in their association. I came to learn that they had the Spirit or the Gift of the Holy Ghost and that when I was around them I was feeling that Spirit about them. Their influence on me led me to find the truth about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. My life has been so enriched and blessed by becoming a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, a Mormon.

How I live my faith

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, I have had many opprotunities to serve in the Church. These opprotunities to serve or "callings" as they are referred to in the Church have helped me to grow and become even more converted to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I currently serve as a Sunday School Instructor for adult members of the Church in my geographic area called a Ward. As a police officer there are many challenges that I face day in and day out. It is very easy as a police officer to become very cynical about people. It is easy for police officers to develop an attitude of us against them. This view of people can lead one to look for the negative or bad in people. Being a member of the Church has helped me to avoid that pitfall that can effect police officers. I have come to learn that we are all human and all of us make mistakes in our lives. At times the choices that people make have tragic consequences on their lives and the quality of their lives. I certainly have come to understand that I am human also. I make mistakes like every one else. Although I strive to live my life in a Christlike manner, I fall short and commit sin. I have come to learn that the Savior Jesus Christ sufferred and sacrificed His life for me and others so that we can overcome those times where we fall short and commit sin. I have felt the peace that comes from applying His Atonement in my life. There is a cleansing power in the Atonement of Jesus Christ. I am so thankful for that peace that comes from Jesus Christ's Atonement.
