Hi I'm Maria

I'm a wife. I'm the mother of four. I'm a fitness enthusiast. I love to talk. I'm a friend. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I start my day out early. Usually at four something in the morning. I like to hit the gym where I meet friends to run, lift weights, or catch a yoga or spin class. People think I'm crazy, but I love to sweat and get my mind and body moving early so I can be ready to take on the rest of my day. I have been married for fourteen years. My husband loves to joke around so we laugh a lot. He is incredible at helping with the kids so I feel like there is a lot of balance in our parenting. We have four kids ages 13 to 4 and a 1 year old yellow lab. I spend a lot of time in the car, washing clothes, picking up the house and feeding, feeding, feeding! I love to talk. My kids often say, "where is mom? oh, she is probably talking to someone!" It doesn't matter who you are, the mailman, the deli lady, the person the treadmill next to me, an old friend or someone I just met . . . I like to talk. I love people. You can learn so much from people and I love to share stories with people. I think this helps me make friends easily which is nice because I love to connect with people. Up until a few months ago I was a fitness instructor at our local gym. I taught a couple classes a week. My favorites were Strength Conditioning and Yoga. The best part was looking for ways to motivate people to set and achieve their goals. We focused on health and fitness, but I hoped it would influence the rest of their lives. I gave up teaching for now to focus more completely on my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I love God. I remember as a child being scared of nightmares that would wake me up. I would go to my mother's bed where she told me to pray for comfort. I did it and it helped so I later thought if I tried praying before I went to bed maybe I wouldn't have the bad dreams at all. That was how I learned to pray regularly. Then along the way I began to notice that God was listening to me. Really listening to me and helping me. I knew he loved me. I could feel his love. I have felt his love as I have listened to the leaders of the church speak. When I am reading the Bible and Book of Mormon I can feel his love. When I am at church I can feel his love. He has directed me when I have had specific questions; Which college to attend?, Did He approve of my choice for marriage?, Was my baby going to get better from his illness? I trust that if we will listen, He will tell us where to stand. He has done it again and again in my life as he answered these specific questions and others I have asked. I'm a Mormon because I know this is where God wants me to be.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by doing really small things everyday. I pray every day to know where I can be to make the biggest difference. This led me to realizing that my husband and my kids need me more than anyone else. I'm important to them and in this role I can't be replaced. I love to make friends and so I look for ways to invite my neighbors and friends from the gym or church to my home. My sister-in-law and I recently decided that we wanted to get to know our kids friends better so we now alternate having a weekly after school treat day. We try to get our kids to invite as many of their friends as they can to come over. Some days we have had a couple dozen kids in our house. Whew! I volunteer my time to help run the youth group. I love teens. They are full of life and energy and they are fun. We have a weekly activity and an annual summer camp for the girls. They are so enthusiastic to do good and it is contagious. I try to live a Christian life. I look for ways to serve my community. Charity runs, Christmas angel trees and community drives for toys. I enjoy taking meals to friends that are ill or just visiting on the phone with someone who needs to talk. I love life and look for ways to share the things that make my life good with those around me. There is always someone who could use a smile and I like to smile.
