Hi I'm Clay

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a lawyer. I have a small firm with 2 associates and a paralegal specializing in family law, criminal law and personal injury. I am a husband of 28 years, a father of 5 boys and grandfather of 2 girls and a boy. I am a commissioner on the City Public Safety Commission. I like computers and my ipad. I like music. I like spending time with my family. I like to travel. With children in different States, vacations can often be going to visit them.

Why I am a Mormon

My Mother's family were early members of the Church (pioneers), but my Father was not a member. I am a Mormon because I choose to find out for myself if it was true. Although I always went to Church with my Mother, I needed to know for myself. When I was 14 years old, I decided that I would read the Book of Mormon. I got through the first book and then I prayed to ask my Father in Heaven if it was true. I explained to Him my doubts and concerns. At that time the news was that scientists had made life and I was confused. After I prayed, I did not feel anything. I remembered that a seminary teacher had told us that if you pray for something and it doesn't happen and you think, "I knew it wouldn't happen", that shows you do not have faith. While still on my knees I decided that if the Lord was not going to answer my prayer tonight, I would pray every night until He told me it was true or not. As I thought this I felt something come over me and said in my mind that Joseph Smith was a prophet and the Book of Mormon was true. That was the beginning of my testimony. Over the years that testimony has been reaffirmed as I have felt the promptings of the Spirit and received help in my life. I have also noted the wisdom of our Father in Heaven's commandments. As a lawyer I have seen the problems people can get into by braking His commandments. I have also noted the joy, peace, and happiness that comes from obeying His commandments. He does know best and I benefit from keeping that in mind. We are dealing with reality and if we choose to ignore Him, we ignore the true reality of life.

How I live my faith

I am not perfect, but I try to live the Lord's commandments as best I can. I try to be honest in my dealings with others. I think my reputation as a lawyer is as someone who can be trusted and not someone trying to take advantage of others. However, my clients do get one added bonus, I am always praying about my cases. It doesn't mean that I always win, but it helps. Through my involvement with the Church I have also had the opportunity to gather food for poor. Paint houses for those who could not do so themselves. Clean parks. Work on eagle scout projects. It also motivates me in my community involvement on the Public Safety Commission. There we help serve our community by looking for ways to make our City safer. Encourage neighborhoods to organize for natural disasters and crime prevention. In my home I have tried to instill in my children correct principles by both my words and how I treat them and their mother. I have tried to teach them the importance of family and spending time together.
