Hi I'm Shane

I was born and raised in Arizona. I'm an aspiring Ophthalmologist. I love the outdoors and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently serving a full time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. This has been my privilege and opportunity for the last eighteen months. Words cannot express or describe what an incredible experience these past few months have been. Before I left on a mission I was your average teenage kid. I loved being outdoors and some of my earliest memories are of the pine forests and mountains of Northern Arizona. I also grew up on a small, family farm where I learned to work hard and appreciate family. My family is everything to me. We have had our share of trials, as everyone does, but through it all, I could count on my family. They also laid the foundation for my testimony and relationship with my Father in Heaven. My Dad taught me to love the scriptures and keep them close. He taught me to think. He taught me resilience in the face of soul crushing opposition. My Mom taught me by pure example. I learned unconditional love, endurance and perseverance from her. These are lessons beyond price. After serving a mission, I hope to further my education with a career path to medicine. I hope to continue to serve others and build the Kingdom of God, there is no pursuit that has brought me more joy. I ultimately hope to start my own family, sealed in the Temple of God for time and all eternity

Why I am a Mormon

Many people accuse me of just being Mormon because I was born into the church. While that was what started me and introduced me to the LDS faith, that was not my conversion. My conversion and why I live the Gospel is because it gives me hope. We live in a world so confused, that it is nice to have a firm foundation to stand on. I know that the gospel principles are true and are designed to help us be free. I will admit that I questioned the LDS faith and doubted at times. This allowed me to look at the Gospel from a new perspective. I took the bumpy road to obtain my testimony, but what could have been my greatest failure has become my greatest spiritual triumph. I know for myself that Jesus Christ lives and that He speaks, not only to prophets but to us as individuals. The powers of the Atonement are no longer theories or Sunday School lessons, but are reality. The redemptive power brings peace, though not at first and not all once, but it heals and lifts our pains, both Spiritual and Physical. The enabling powers of the Atonement are as simple as the words of Paul "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me". I know that I would not be where I am today without the strength and love of my Savior. I will never again deny what I know in my heart is true. The Gospel is known as the Gospel of peace of hope. I know that it gives me hope, and that is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

My faith is my life. I endeavor to live the admonition of the Savior, which was "By this shall men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another". This is often difficult and at times can try me but the joy that comes is beyond all cost. Evidences of the love I try to show can be as simple as a smile or as wonderful as being a sympathetic ear. I am not perfect but I strive to live in such a way that those who do not know Jesus Christ will come to know Him by seeing His light in my countenance.

What blessings can we receive through the gift of the Holy Ghost?

To fully understand the infinite blessings of the Gift of the Holy Ghost, we must first understand who He is. He is a member of the Godhead, the governing Presidency of the Universe. The privilege that our loving Heavenly Father extends to us of ALWAYS having the Spirit with us is truly incomparable. Through this Gift we can more fully commune with God. He speaks the Words of Christ, testifies of Christ, leads us to Christ and comforts us in Christ. He furthermore Sanctifies us, purging and purifying our Hearts from Sin. My favorite description is that He is "a promise of Eternal Life and a Foretaste of Eternal Joy". Ultimately, the Holy Ghost is a teacher. It is by his power that we teach and learn. It is through His influence that we gain all knowledge, especially Spiritual Knowledge. His impressions and lessons are more enduring, more permanent, more valuable and more sensitive than any other influence. As stated above, the Gift of the Holy Ghost enables us to have the Spirit with us always, as we live worthy of His presence. This right is not extended to all, because it is a privilege. We must meet the Lord's requirements: Repent and be Baptized, then remain faithful to the End. Show more Show less

How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

Faith is a Gift from God which is granted and cultivated through the Holy Ghost. We gain Faith through experiences that allow the Spirit to testify to our hearts the truth. We experiment upon commandments and see the blessings in our lives and the divine approval our Father in Heaven sends. We attend our meetings, pray, read the scriptures and find that our questions are answered, our ability to endure increased and our knowledge or the reality of the Savior strengthened. These are all evidences of a Faith that is growing. It is by small, almost invisible strides that our faith grows. Show more Show less
