Hi I'm Allen

I like to hike, backpack, and ride bicycles, I survived a heart attack, open heart surgery, cancer and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a father of 8 children 6 girls and 2 boys. I am a grandfather of 15 and love to see them all at family gatherings. I am a financial analyst for a major US based company and currently support their international development. I like to hike in the beautiful Northwest Forests and Mt Rainier NP. I have backpacked most of the Wonderland trail, climbed Mt St Helens and different sections of the Pacific Crest Trail. I ride my bicycle for recreation and enjoy a 50 miler on early Saturday morning rides. I have riden home from the Washington coast a few times with some good friends. I have taken the scouts on wilderness camping trips, 50 mile canoe trips, and a long 200+ cycling event from Aberdeen, Wa. to Tillamook, Or. I have survived cancer, a heart attack that required open heart surgery to replace a valve. I have recovered and participate in the Heart Walks, and Cancer Walks. I keep active with daily walks, and love to watch my kids in their activities.

Why I am a Mormon

I love the teachings of the Mormon religion as it has helped me raise my children to be good, loving, caring individuals that know how to serve, and understand others. We have served the homeless and the widows and have truely felt the love of our Savior as we provided this service. I have found the teachings of the Savior in the parables important to helping me as a father teach the principles of showing kindness to others. I have appreciated the principle of Eternal Families and found comfort and calmness when my father passed away at 92 years of age. I know that he lived a good life and that he is doing good things now that he has moved to the next life. I miss him, but through my understanding of the eternal nature of life and families, I will be with him again. This gives me hope and purpose in living the best I can to follow the Saviors teachings and commandments so we can be a good family together after this life. My children have been taught the purpose of life, why we are here on earth and what we can do to live together again. I have felt the comfort of the Holy Ghost bare to me the truthfullness of the teachings of the church and the living prophets today. I testify that I have received the witness by the spirit of revelation, that the church is true, that the teachings are correct and that we can have true happiness when we follow the Savior's teaching and example.

How I live my faith

I have served many years in different capacities within the church. I have worked with the youth programs helping young men in scouting, and earlier morning church classes before regular school. I have been the local leadership positions to help coordinate activities, classes and organize home teaching that supports individual family needs. I have worked at the cannery packaging food to help families on welfare. I have worked on church welfare farms to weed and pick beans and corn. I have supported the programs that provide household goods to those in need. I have enjoyed supporting the youth groups in their camping and training activities.
