Hi I'm Dan

I grew up near Seattle, Washington. I am a father, gardener, genealogist, ham radio operator and family physician. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have been married for 38 years to my dear wife and have 6 children and 3 grandchildren who are dear to me. I am a family practice physician and work hard, listen carefully and do my best to provide medical care. I balance hobbies of growing fruit and vegetables in the backyard in raised gardens, researching my ancestors in Switzerland and Germany and being a ham radio operator. I enjoy reading history, biographies and Harry Potter. Though I am banned from the church choir by my musical wife, due to tone deafness, I love all types of music, classical, country, folk and pop. I stay physically active by walking at noon at work, bicycling and swimming (in warm weather!).

Why I am a Mormon

I was born of goodly parents who taught me, provided Christian models for me and raised me in the Chruch of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saint, otherwise known as the Mormon Church. However, I had to find out for myself, if this church was what it claimed to be, the restored Church of Jesus Christ. When I was in my late teens, I wanted to go on a mission for the church. How could I go and teach other people if I didn't know if this was the true restored Church of Christ? So I learned of Jospeh Smith and another witness of Christ, the Book of Mormon, which he translated through the help of God. I read, studied and pondered this sacred writing which testifies of Jesus Christ. The Holy Ghost confirmed to me in an unmistakeable way that this book was true, that Joseph Smith was a prophet and Christ's church was restored by him, the same church of the New Testament Bible which Christ had founded. Today we have a living prophet, President Thomas S. Monson who leads this church. The Holy Ghost has continued to confirm my testimony of these important facts.

How I live my faith

I attend church, (easier now that I don't deliver babies, have night call or hospital work) weekly. I assist in a leadership role over families in our ward that involves weekly meetings or visits, but also have 5 families I and a companion visit each month to see to their needs. I team teach family history or genealogy in Sunday School. I am a ham radio operator and maintain my equipment for use in a emergency. I work as a family physian once a month for 3 hours at a free clinic, providing free medical care for patients that don't have medical insurance.
