Hi I'm Kevin

I'm a husband, a father, a grandfather, an Engineer, and a muscle car enthusiast. I'm also a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a small town in North Idaho, in a family of active members of the LDS church. I can't remember a time when I didn't know of the reality of God. The gospel of Jesus Christ has always been an integral part of who I am. As a youth, I loved the out of doors, and spent hours riding motorcycles in the nearby mountains. At 19, I left college for two years to be a missionary for the church. I was sent to Kobe, Japan. It was a bit of a culture shock at first, but it also was a great experience to learn a new language, and live in a different culture. I learned to love the people, and still maintain contacts there. We regularly host Japanese exchange students in our home, and we have made many wonderful friends. After the mission came college, marriage, and four children. My older children are all grown and on their own. In the past 5 years, we have adopted 2 orphan girls from China, and are raising a second family. I have more interests than time to pursue them all, but in my "spare" time I enjoy family activities, gardening, reading, riding motorcycles, and restoring 60's era muscle cars. I also work on my Japanese language skills.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because of what the gospel of Jesus Christ brings into my life. In a world of shifting and relative values, the gospel offers eternal, unchanging truths. It helps provide direction in my life. Following Christ means learning to set aside my selfish tendencies, and do what He would have me do--loving and serving others. However, the gospel is not just about doing what God wants us to do. As our Father, he knows us, and knows our potential. His desire is not for us to just do things, but for us to become something. He provided this earthly experience, and the gospel through His Son to help us become like Him. I know from personal experience and the witness of the spirit that God and His Son Jesus Christ are real and that they love and care about each of us. I have learned that when life brings tough challenges, as it surely will at some time for each of us, that God will always be there for us if we seek him. He won't necessarily take away the difficulties, but he will help us get through them. My faith in God has always given me the strength to go on even in the most difficult times. He has lifted me up, and helped me overcome the challenge, which has helped make me a better person. Through my participation in church activities, I have also had the opportunity to meet and associate with many outstanding people, and have learned much from them. The gospel of Jesus Christ has brought happiness into my life the way nothing else in the world can.

How I live my faith

The gospel of Jesus Christ is at the core of who I am, and influences everything I do and say each day. Because of my beliefs, I try to consider the consequences of my actions, especially as they affect others. It has brought me many opportunities to help and serve others, both within the church and in the community. I have cared for children in the nursery, taught children, youth and adults in Sunday School classes, served in secretarial and group leadership positions, and helped with local service projects to improve our community.
