Hi I'm Scott Bennion

I'm a Mormon. Born and raised in the Church. I'm a husband, father, grandfather, optometric physician, and outdoor enthusiast.

About Me

My family is my most prized possession. My parents raised me in the Church and taught me the values that have shaped my life. Growing up in the greater Seattle area, I have always loved the outdoors. I play most any sport I am invited to participate in, but am especially partial to golf, basketball, tennis, handball, and hiking. I graduated from college in 1976 with a doctor of optometry degree and stayed near Seattle to raise our family. We are parents of 7 children and 17 grandchildren. We are very blessed to have all our children and grandchildren living close to us. We get together every Sunday with most of them for a family dinner. It is such a joy to see them all grow and develop in so many wonderful ways.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the Mormon Church, but there comes a time in everyones life when you have to stop relying on the testimony and beliefs of others, and develop a conviction of your own. I am very grateful for the moral values and faith in Jesus Christ that my parents instilled in me. They also taught me how to listen to and hear/feel the promptings of the Holy Ghost. This allowed me to learn and know for myself that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is true, and is the way to return to live with Him. I love the scriptures. I love the blessing of having living prophets on the earth to guide us. I love the priviledge of praying to my Heavenly Father and the blessing of receiving answers to my prayers. I love being surrounded by others who share my convictions and goals for this life and our life to come.

How I live my faith

I believe as Paul of old taught, in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, and in doing good to all men. I love the opportunities that the Church gives me to serve others. I participate in and serve in my community in various ways, but my favorite service has been as a leader/mentor of our youth. The church has adopted the Boy Scouts of America as our official youth activity program for our young men. I have served in various Scouting positions. I love supervising as the boys plan and carry out week long summer high adventure activities. We have climbed mountains, hiked trails, played in rivers and lakes, all while learning christian values and brotherhood. The scouting organization and the young men's program of the church teach these young men to be leaders, husbands, and fathers. It was very fun to be a part of. Now I have been called to serve a full time mission and am looking forward to dedicating 2 years of my life, alongside my wonderful wife, in the service of our Savior.
