Hi I'm Rachel Evans

I live in Arizona. I’m a redhead, a twin, an animal lover, a bookworm, and a Mormon. :)

About Me

I am a 20-year-old college student, majoring in nursing to become an RN. I work as a nurse assistant at a medical-care group home, and I love it! I have a lot of pets (a toy poodle, a lovebird, and lots of chickens!) and I also love reading, singing, and drawing. I was born and raised in Arizona and I love it, the crazy heat, the cacti, the sunsets, everything. Some of my favorite books include the Harry Potter series, The Count of Monte Cristo, A Tale of Two Cities, and The City of Dreaming Books. My favorite musician is Owl City. My favorite food is macaroni (of course!).

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a Mormon family, but as I've grown it has been my choice to participate and stay active in the Church. I saw the choices non-Mormon friends made throughout high school and now in college, and how choices inconsistent with the teachings of the gospel always led to heartbreak, regret, and sometimes difficult life circumstances. I love that the gospel teaches clearly the difference between right and wrong. I love the personal relationship I have with God. I also love the peace I get when I study the scriptures and the strength I find through fellow members and my own testimony. Finally, I am a Mormon because I have a sincere testimony of the truthfulness of this Church and its teachings about the gospel of my Savior, Jesus Christ. I believe in the Book of Mormon, know it is true, and am so thankful for the way it strengthens my relationship with the Savior.

How I live my faith

I currently serve as a Relief Society teacher, which I love doing. I was called to teach when I was eighteen years old! At first I was intimidated by the idea of teaching a class full of women who are mostly much older and more experienced than I am, but as the saying goes, God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called. So I accepted the calling, and I LOVE it. Being a teacher has helped me grow in so many ways. I also live church standards happily and I love answering questions about my religion at school and at work. Being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is about so much more than just not drinking coffee or using clean language (the usual characteristics people mention). Being a Mormon is about living the gospel of Jesus Christ and becoming a better person, gaining happiness, strength, and understanding through these principles. I am so glad to be a member of this Church.

What is being a Mormon like?

Rachel Evans
Being a Mormon is a great source of happiness for me, and for everyone I know in the Church. We believe in living with high standards and doing things like personal prayer, scripture study, and going to church on Sunday. We have a set of standards that we follow to help us make good choices. We also love to serve people, Mormon or nonmember, because service is something that makes everyone involved happy. We have the knowledge that we can be together with our families even after death and that even though nobody's perfect (and no one should feel like they have to be), the Savior's Atonement enables us to learn from and move past any mistake. Being a Mormon is being happy and sharing our happiness with others! Show more Show less
