Hi I'm Brette!!

I love sports or pretty much any good competition. I love teaching children and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My life has been shaped by my family. I grew up with 3 siblings, an older brother, a younger sister and a little brother. I am who I am because of them. From my parents, I learned many values about how to work hard, stand for what is right, and never compromise my standards. From my older brother, I learned that sports are some of the greatest things ever. There is nothing better than a great game of basketball, or for that matter volleyball, tennis, ping pong, ultimate frisbee, football, maybe some mountain biking...the list could go on forever! Competing, or even just participating, in an honest game of anything can test your body, spirit, and morals. From my sister I have learned that you don't have to be like someone to love them a lot, you don't have to take the things of life so seriously, and you should probably be matching before you leave the house. I have probably learned the most from my little brother though. He has intellectual disabilities. He goes through the milestones of life at his own happy pace and even though he is 13, he has the mind and love of a child. He has opened my heart in a way no other person could. Because of him I have worked the past 4 years to earn a degree in Special Education so I can have the opportunity to enjoy a professional career working with children with disabilities. I currently teach 10 wonderful kindergartners with disabilities.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since I was a child. My mother was excellent at helping us all get ourselves to church and be good people in following the teachings of Christ. When I was in high school, though, I reached that point where you don't want to be doing things because you always have. You want to do things because they mean someting to you. So I decided to determine if I was really a member of Jesus Christ's true church on the earth. I was more earnest in my efforts to live the teachings of the church and to do the best I could to do what was required. I decided to seriously read the Book of Mormon to know if it was true. I prayed to God to know the Book of Mormon was true and I felt an answer that yes, I had always known it was true in my life. As I continually prayed and put in my effort, I experienced something talked about in the Book of Mormon by a prophet of God. In Alma 32:28, it reads: "Now, we will compare the word unto a aseed. Now, if ye give place, that a bseed may be planted in your cheart, behold, if it be a true seed, or a good seed, if ye do not cast it out by your dunbelief, that ye will resist the Spirit of the Lord, behold, it will begin to swell within your breasts; and when you feel these swelling motions, ye will begin to say within yourselves—It must needs be that this is a good seed, or that the word is good, for it beginneth to enlarge my soul; yea, it beginneth to enlighten my funderstanding, yea, it beginneth to be delicious to me." Being a member of the LDS church really did become delicious to me. Delicious to my soul just the way ice cream is fantastically delicious to my taste. It was amazing! I knew that what I was living and learning about was true because it felt so good. I know it is true, because I have lived it. And through that I have had confiming answers added to confirming answers that this is the true Church of Jesus Christ and the way to happiness and peace.

How I live my faith

I have been home from serving as a full time missionary since March of 2013. I now have the opportunity to worship with and serve a group of young adults here in Arizona. I get to serve in the women's organization, helping the sisters I worship with in any ways that I can. It is wonderful as we all come closer to Christ together. I also get to help with religious classes held for young adults, again so we can all come closer to Christ. I love to be able to see how God works in each of our lives through his gospel and church and being able to help serve in that capacity is an honor.
