Hi I'm Irene

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mother of 5 grown up children, four boys and one girl and grandmother of 12, soon to be thirteen. My best hobby is Family History and I have over seven thousand names on my tree. I also like helping others find their families and work one day a month at the Family History Library. My other love is skiing which I only discovered when I was forty six so I'm not very good at it as living in Queensland I don't get to go as often as I would like and the body isn't as strong as it used to be.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was sixteen, I was doing a message for my boss who was a pharmacist and I met two missionaries doing a street survey. Later they came to my house and invited me to some youth activities. Before the activity they would teach me a discussion about the church. I was sceptical at first and had questions, but before I got to ask, they were answered as part of the discussion. What they were telling me seemed logical and I soon had no doubts as to the truthfulness of what they said. I started attending church and the weekly youth meetings, but it was nine months before I had the courage to ask my dad if I could be baptized. I was baptized on my seventeeth birthday. When I was nineteen, I was married in the temple in New Zealand for time and eternity. We now have a temple in every major city in Australia and I love to attend mine in Brisbane regularly. My children are all active members of the church. I'm sure the Family Home Evening program helps keep families together and true to the gospel. I have never looked back since that time nearly fifty years ago and have only come to know without a shadow of a doubt that I have done the right thing. I know Heavenly Father lives and loves us all. He is the Father of our spirits and Jesus Christ is our elder brother and came to atone for our sins so that we could all go back as families to live with our Heavenly Father again one day.

How I live my faith

My first area of service in the church was to teach the seven/eight year olds in Sunday school. Since then I have had many diverse callings from the youth program including teaching and leading the women and children's organizations. I have performed in dance and music competitions and in stage shows. Since I was a kid I always wanted to be on the stage and now this church has given me the opportunity to live that dream and also help others bring out their talents. I currently serve in family history.
