Hi I'm Brandon

I love the outdoors. I love being a dad. I serve my community. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have always loved trying new things. Some things I really identify with and continue to work at. My current favorite sports are wakeboarding and mountain biking. I have also been known as a runner, a cyclist, a Scouter, a hobbyist, a builder, and many more. My teenage years found me off-road motorcycling and flying radio control planes. That is, when I wasn't chasing cows and harvesting alfalfa on our family ranch. Work has now evolved to engineering, but I still manage to find plenty of time for fun! I am a husband and father, and I love my family. We live away from extended family. Sometimes this is hard. We have adopted some neighbors and friends as our "local grandparents", and have deeply enjoyed the relationships that have formed.

Why I am a Mormon

The reason I stick with the faith of my childhood is that I love the blessings of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I gained a testimony of the gospel in my youth little by little. A couple of instances are particularly memorable: As a teenager I tried hard to read from the scriptures daily. I also memorized portions of scripture for seminary. One particular segment of scripture really sunk deep as I chose to extend myself and memorize more than was required. This segment included the story of Joseph Smith's growing testimony and consequent "First Vision". Later in life I desired a solid testimony of the Book of Mormon. I prayed many times, and continued a dedicated daily study. One morning as I read from the Book of Mormon, I felt a strong impression that the authors of the book were real people, and that their history was true. In the service of my family and neighbors I have found joy. This is the joy of serving as Christ served. I'm grateful for the deep service He provided in the Atonement. This perfect gift has saved me over and over, and it is what gives me hope whenever life seems to be crumbling. Nothing on this earth compares. I'm grateful for the additional witness of the Book of Mormon, which sustains Christ as our Saviour and Redeemer.

How I live my faith

I work with the youth of our ward. I take the young men on Boy Scout journeys of service and exploration. I love seeing them experience the various options of finding joy in this life! I have witnessed struggles and miracles as these teenage boys discover who they are. Sometimes it is a struggle to keep a healthy balance. Scouting will require all the time a person is willing to allow it. My own family takes priority. Thankfully I have a wonderful wife who lets me know when I'm pushing the limits. Family time is most important. My wife and I hold weekly Family Home Evening on Monday nights. Our two little girls often challenge us, but at least some of the lessons seem to take hold. Regular scripture study is more challenging, but we find it crucial to maintaining a semblance of peace in our home.
