Hi I'm David

I played football at the Univ of Washington in Seattle. I was an Air Force pilot and now a commercial ailine pilot. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a big football fan and get excited every fall, especially for the University of Washington season. I played for them when I was younger and have many fond memories. I joined the US Air Force after college and flew C141s for about 12 years. I then became a commercial airline pilot flying MD80s and 737s. While I did all that I managed to get married and have a few kids along the way. I enjoy the outdoors, boating, fishing and skiing in the summer and sledding with the kids and skiing in the winter. I love a good game of chess and play online when the opportunity arises. I work out alot and enjoy lifitng weights and elipital machines as my youthful pursuits on the field make it difficult to run now that I'm a bit older.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents joined the church when I was but a year old so I was raised in the church. The church has always been a part of my life at the least as a social outlet, for as a youth growing up in the church the social aspect of things is awesome. When I was 18 and off to college I had to make a decision if I really believed the things I had been taught. I wrestled with the church's teachings versus what I was learning in my college courses which many times contradicted each other...but not always. I came to the conclusion that I did indeed believe the church's teachings were correct. This conclusion was not made by the logic and reason of the decision making and learning process my college professors taught, but by the methods taught by the Savior. These methods don't necessarily lend themselves to discovery by the scientific method but by the complete and totally subjective experience of my personal feelings which have been touched by the spirit of the Holy Ghost as described in scripture.

How I live my faith

The church makes my life better by providing structure to my life in various areas not just in the spiritual aspect. It provides guidance and advice on family life and parenting, marriage, and self sufficiency. It offers social interaction and activities in wholesome settings. It also provides the opportunity to give service to those in need. I find that providing service brings me closer to my Savior than anything. When I combine service with prayer and scripture study, I supercharge spiritual growth. The church is run by a lay ministry or there are no paid professional clergy. We all have to pitch in to make the church work. Many of us have callings in the church that allow us to serve. I am a Sunday School teacher for the 16-17 year old youth. It is a great class to teach that challenges me and makes me very happy....and that's what it's about, right?
