Hi I'm Rachel

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a mother of four: three boys and a girl. I was one of those girls who said they would never get married and never have children. I'm the youngest of six children myself, so I never really liked being around babies. I was aggressive and driven to accomplish something better than motherhood. I went to one of the top engineering schools in the nation but somehow along the way, I met a guy. He was (still is) a fantastic guy who brought out the best in me, and he was a member of the church, too. So, we married and 5 years later we started having babies. My life isn't so much about me. It's about the people I love: my husband, my children, my parents, and my brothers and sisters. They are what made me who I am.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents are members of the church. They are converts: my father previously a Catholic and my mother a Baptist. They wanted their children to go to church but which one? Missionaries knocked on their door when they were a young married couple with a few kids and voila...they were baptized. I fell away from the church as a teenager. I didn't have a very strong testimony, but I always said if there is truth out there then The Church of Jesus Christ of LDS has it. I realized in my late teens that I didn't want to be the kind of person I was anymore. My parents got me to come back to church with good, old bribery and I committed to myself that I would only date members of the church. I met that person, and he made me want to be a better person. Being an active member of the church creates a happier, more satisfying life.

How I live my faith

I start in my home. As a family, we pray every morning and every night. We read the scriptures together every night, and we have weekly family home evenings where we sing, have a lesson, play a game, and end it all with a treat. Its lots of fun and my kids look forward to it every week. We attend church together every Sunday. I've served at church in many areas but my favorite was conducting singing time with the children. Music is a very important part of my life and my family's life. Sometimes when you can't find the right words to express your faith, it's easy to find them in a song or hymn.
