Hi I'm Janice

I grew up in Canada. My professional background is in business, finance and real estate. I'm a wife, a mother, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Canada and after high school I attended college in the United States. I studied Economics and then four years later went back to school for my MBA in Finance. I have worked in various capacities of banking, corporate finance, treasury, and real estate. I love the outdoors and enjoy hiking, running, skiing, and ice skating. I also love music. I like to sing and play a little piano and guitar. I am a wife and mother of two children. My family and I love to travel to experience new places and learn about different cultures. I also speak French and some Cantonese and would love to learn another language one day.

Why I am a Mormon

My mother grew up in Hong Kong and was 15 years old when she met missionaries who taught her about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She got baptized and became a member of this church a short time later. I was raised in this church and always felt a great peace when I attended my meetings and when I studied the Bible and the Book of Mormon. When I was about 16 years old I started to ask more questions. I recognized the deep faith of others in God and in His son Jesus Christ and wanted to better understand what their role was in my life. I began asking my bishop questions about the Savior and what He did for me. I continued to study the scriptures and to pray to God. As I did these things I gained an understanding of God's love for me as one of His Children. I learned that through Jesus Christ I can overcome my weaknesses and my sins. I also learned that one day we will live again with our loved ones after this life because of Christ's sacrifice and resurrection. So why am I a Mormon? I am a Mormon because I know God loves me and has a plan and purpose for my life. I am a Mormon because when I follow this plan and try my best to do God's will I feel true joy, despite challenges and trials that come my way. I am a Mormon because I feel a strong peace in following the Savior Jesus Christ that is not felt in anything else that I ever do or pursue.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to do what Christ did. I try to find ways to help uplift and serve those around me when they are having a difficult time. Sometimes this is done by trying to be encouraging, supportive or by just listening. Other times this may mean bringing some soup or dinner to someone who is sick or not feeling well. I live my faith by trying to repent when I make mistakes and by asking for forgiveness when I am aware of something I did wrong to affect someone else in a negative way. I know that I am not perfect and have many shortcomings, but I try to reconcile my life to Christ's teachings the best that I can. I also live my faith by being involved in my church and community. At various times of my life, I have helped organize activities, work as a youth leader, consult others in family history work, and participate in temple work. I have also helped to teach Sunday school lessons to children, youth or adults. In addition, I spent a year and a half doing missionary work which included proselyting, providing tours at one of the temple visitors' centers, and doing community service such as teaching English as a Second Language and caring for the elderly.
