Hi I'm Daniel Howell

I'm a dreamer, I'm a husband and father and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in small town in Virginia. My folks have been living in the same house for longer than I've been alive. I used to complain about feeling trapped in the middle of nowhere--but after serving a mission in Portugal and West Africa, going to college in the West, and working in several cities since, I've learned to appreciate how blessed I've been and how the Lord blesses all of us, no matter where we live. Whether living out of a house, hut, or suitcase, I've felt the Saviors love every day. I've been married since 2007 and have three children, with the oldest being three. My best friend/wife has been the biggest daily blessing, with the children coming in a close second (depending on the day). Because of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, our parents brought us up to live righteous lives. The habits and attitudes taught in the Gospel by our parents have been the foundation for raising our family as well. This solid foundation has allowed me to focus on performing in my job, growing my skills and education, serving in the community, and has even allowed me to occasional enjoy my lifelong hobbies of painting and drawing. Though we struggle with finances, illness, and hardship like everyone else, I am happy because we are being watched over.

Why I am a Mormon

When I first moved out on my own, I started new job hundreds of miles from anyone I knew. Though I've always been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, this was the first time that nobody knew anything about me or what I believed. In the very moment the thoughts of not going to church or not keeping the commandments came into my head, I remembered all the good works my parents have done and all the things that I knew were true. I knew in that moment that I could not deny who I was - a son of my Heavenly Father. Though I was alone, I knew that there was a higher purpose for me and that the Lord could not bless me if I left the path. I am eternally grateful for that prompting and the strength I received to obey it. The blessings of family and friends that I have now are the result of choosing to keep the commandments in the past. I know that by enduring to keep the commandments now, I will continue to be blessed in the future. And because of the Atonement of Jesus Christ, I know that I can eventually return back to Heavenly Father's presence with my family.

How I live my faith

No matter where I've lived, I've try to serve the community, Church, and neighbors around me. I've been a Sunday School teacher, a Scoutmaster, a secretary to a Bishop, a fellow neighbor, a shoulder to cry on, and friend to a stranger or two on my path.

What is the Book of Mormon?

Daniel Howell
The Book of Mormon is one of the only books I know that helps my mind to be prepared to receive specific, personal revelation from my Father in Heaven. Sometimes the revelation comes from stories and examples on the pages of the scriptures. Sometimes the revelation is a principle that is entwined with the Gospel's teachings. Sometimes, the revelation has nothing to do with anything that I'm reading, but because I took time to read the Word of the Lord, the Holy Ghost opens my mind to a specific prompting that pertains to my life today. In any case, the Book of Mormon is a tool that we have to listen and learn about the plan that God has for us. Show more Show less
