Hi I'm Danica

I a mom, wife and lover of life. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up with a big family. There were six of us kids. We would go on road trips from New Jersey to Utah crammed into a non-air conditioned full size van. They called us the summer fun club. My parents put family first and they had a lot of fun in just about everything we did. I think that has shaped my attitude for my whole life. I have lived in China as an English teacher. I served a mission for the LDS church. I graduated from college. I got married and now am working on growing our little family. Everything in life is an adventure. There are fun things to discover in every part of life. Even in the tough patches.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a person that loved the first day of school. You really didn't have to do any real work and you got the course outline and expectations. I was never the best student but I did appreciate knowing exactly what the teacher expected of me so I could pass the class. I feel like the Mormon faith gives me a course outline and list of expectations. I know where I came from. I know what I am supposed to be doing in this life. And I know what is coming after I die. I know what is expected of me. And if I am trying my best to do those things- God lets me know he is pleased with me. The Mormon faith is not the easiest religion to live. The expectations on us are great. We have a lot of work to do. We all work together to teach each other and help each other out when one of us is down. But the blessings from giving of yourself and reaching out to others are incredible. I know that Jesus Christ is leading this church. I know that the things he has asked us to do may be difficult but are worth it. Every day I do what he asks I become a little more like him. I am kinder to my children, I love my husband more. I am filed with more gratitude, and I am led by a Father in Heaven to happiness and peace. It is through knowing the course outline and list of expectations given to us by Jesus Christ through the church that I am happy and hopeful.

How I live my faith

As a church we have a "lay ministry". None of us are paid, or do jobs in the church full time. We all pitch in and do assignment we call "callings." We move around a lot and do a job for a little while then move on to a different assignment. A man may serve as a leader for a couple of years then he gets a new job teaching nine year-olds in Sunday school. I love the assignments I have received. I have taught Sunday school, I have taught the women, I have taught 3 year-olds, I have lead different groups and planned activities. I love the things I have learned from each group. Right now I work with the girls that are 8 and 9 years old. I love working with young women. The world is a scary place. The things we learn and teach in the church give the girls strength to fight. I love being able to tell these beautiful young women who they are. I love telling them they are daughters of God, that God loves them and cares about their lives. The programs and activities in the Mormon church are meant to build these girls up and teach them to respect themselves, to dress like they are worth something. Two of my children are girls- a preschooler and toddler. I am so thankful for the things I know. I would be so scared to send my beautiful little girls into the world without teaching them about Jesus Christ. And when they are old enough- they will go to the same type of group I am leading with their own peers. I feel so much better about their future knowing they will be around good friends and good adults that care about following Jesus Christ.
