Hi I'm Alfonso Cruz

I grew up in San Antonio, Texas, grew up speaking both Spanish and English. Now, I get teach young childen Spanish. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a home where both English and Spanish were spoken all the time. Ever so often I would catch myself during a famiy conversation speaking to someone in my family in one language and another person in a different language; it was truly a bilingual household. I'm grateful for that experience, now I teach young children both Spanish and English. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Bilingual and Bicultural Studies with a Bilingual Certification. As a bilingual teacher, I have the opportunity to teach young school children not only new languages, but help them become familiar with its culture. I also enjoy working with youth through the Boy Scout's of America, and helping our youth enjoy all the activities that the program has to offer. When I get a chance to enjoy some free time, I enjoy spending it with my parents and the families of my two brothers. Yes, I am a single young man, and look forward to having my own family. Some other things that I enjoy doing is swimming, playing basketball, and reading books; mostly educational. I try to enjoy each minute of life that is afforded to me!

Why I am a Mormon

I have decided to continue the faith my parents were converted to many years ago. As with my parent's I too have gone through the conversion process, and continually work on my faith. I have come to appreciate the decision my parents made in accepting the gospel of Jesus Christ in their lives so many years ago. As I continue to try to apply the teaching of Jesus Christ in my life, I have found great joy and happiness. Among the many important teachings that Jesus taught, I have come to more fully understand and appreciate the fact that Jesus is our older brother and we too are children of a loving Heavenly Father. I am grateful to know that I have a Heavenly Father who watches over me, who constantly looks to give me the best he can offer me, who is willing to forgive me when I make mistakes in life, who comforts me in times of need, he who can understand me more than any other person can, a Heavenly Father who never forgets me, even when at times I may forget him. I am grateful for Jesus Christ and his perfect example of love, compassion, and service to others. I am grateful to know that he willingly gave his life for me, so that I may one day return to enjoy his presence and that of my Heavenly Father. I am grateful for all of his teachings; they have truly have made me a better person. I am grateful for the scriptures for they bring peace to my soul, and also provide direction and guidance for what I must do in this life. I know they are God's words. I am grateful for the prophets of old, and their testimonies of God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost. I am grateful that Heavenly Father sends prophets today to teach us of the divinity of Jesus Christ as our Savior. I know all these things to be true, not because flesh or blood have told me, but the Spirit of God has let me know in my heart that they are true.

How I live my faith

I am actively involved in different church activities that include Sunday worship, and weekly activities. I enjoy working with different Boy Scout units within the church, and help ensure they enjoy all the program has to offer. I really enjoy working with the youth in the church, and enjoy helping them appreciate what the gospel of Jesus Christ does for us. Every so often I have the opportunity to be the "DJ" for an upcoming dance or event, which can be sometimes challenging. Its hard to find good music that has a good message, and that youth are willing to dance to. I have the opportunity to visit different families of my congregation each month, and I enjoy the fellowship we create through our visits.
