Hi I'm Jessica

I am a new convert to the church. I enjoy reading, cooking, mountain biking, and serving others in need.

About Me

I am a 28 year old Executive Assistant and student. I'm working towards obtaining my degree in Elementary Education. I work full time during the day and go to school full time at night. In my free time, which is very little, I enjoy relaxing with a good book - scifi fantasy novels are my favorite. I do not read for knowledge unless I have to. I read for the pure enjoyment of escape. I also enjoy mountain biking, hiking, cooking for my friends and family, and volunteering my time at the Foundation for Blind Children here in the valley.

Why I am a Mormon

3 Nephi 14: 7Ask, and it shall be given unto you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opended unto you. 8For every one that asketh, receiveth; and he that seeketh, findeth; and to him that knocketh, it shall be opened. I have not exactly led my life in a way that most people would consider virtuous. And after reading through The Book of Mormon, attending church, and meeting the people that make up its community; it became painfully clear to me as to why I had spent the last few years in a constant state of suffering that at the time had no apparent explanation. One night I found myself in the very bottom of the hole that I’d be digging and in complete desperation I went to the apartment that I was being forced to move out of and sat there in the emptiness praying for nearly 3 hours. I prayed for understanding and for guidance and for strength. I have never been so low, which was terrifying. But after 3 hours of crying and praying, I suddenly felt this wave of calm wash over me and I was completely certain of what I needed to do. It was the most incredible feeling. My crying stopped immediately and I had no more anxiety or sadness. Just a very strong sense of direction and peace. I could only associate this as the answer to my prayers (and what I now know as the gift of the Holy Ghost) I immediately went into action and contacted the missionaries in my area. I explained my experience and my excitement over having been filled with the peace of our Lord to the Sisters and the family we were visiting with. The father of the family opened his Book of Mormon and turned to 3 Nephi 9:20 and further explained what he felt about my experience mirroring that of the many experiences described in the book. I was baptised 2 weeks later and have never experienced more peace and love than I have since that wonderful day.

How I live my faith

Knowing that Heavenly Father has a plan for me brings such incredible comfort and peace. This is a gift that I love to share with everyone. I participate in the church as a primary teacher, teaching the 8 & 9 year olds. I also volunteer at The Foundation for Blind Children. Whenever possible, I visit the homes of those investigating the church to share my testimony and help answer any questions. I work hard to live by the standards of our Lord and to remember to have faith. I pray every day and I include my friends and my family when they are present. I invite the Lord into my life and I am incredibly blessed because of it.
