Hi I'm Shain

I'm an Oregonian, a photographer, a missionary, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Montana, but when I was 13 my mother was in a car wreck, which caused my little sister and I to move to Oregon. I have no doubt that it led to me being who I am. I've finished High School, started College, and I'm now serving a mission in the West Virginia Charleston Mission. Some of my favorite things in the world are photography, music and cooking. I love being able to help people, and making as many people happy as possible, even if I might get a little frustrated. It's totally worth it, and I'm always working it! I believe that life is meant for us to make mistakes, and to correct them and learn from them. I love Christ, and of course my family and friends!

Why I am a Mormon

I, like most of the people on here, grew up in the church but didn't know for certain that it was right. I suppose I have always known that the church was good, but I didn't know what it meant to be part of that true church until I almost came on my mission. I honestly, almost didn't. I just didn't know if I really wanted to or not, so a couple weeks before I came out, I sat down and did the thing that everyone talks about: I read and prayed. I didn't see lights or anything spectacular like that, but I feel like what I experianced was better. I felt it. That's why I'm a member. Because I know that this is true, and I love it with all my heart. I love it so much that I want to share it with all those around me, even if they don't really wanna try it out for themselves right now. I know that Jesus is the Christ, I know that God lives, I know this church is true and Joseph Smith is a prophet of God. I know that Thomas S Monson is the prophet of God in this day and age right now to help lead and guide God's children.

How I live my faith

Back home in Oregon, I was part of a group who planned activites for those in the congregation. I also participated in the choir and other things. Now I'm a missionary, out spreading the word. I'm serving in the best mission in the world(West Virginia Charleston) and I love it so much. I've served in Russell, KY; Kingwood, WV; Lynchburg, VA; Charleston, WV; Clarksburg, WV; and now Lexington, VA. I'm eternally grateful that I made the choice to come out. As a missionary, I'm called to serve, and willling to do so. Whether serving be teaching the gospel to those who want to know, or changing a light bulb, I'm happy to do it for myself, for Jesus, for God and for my fellow brothers and sisters in the spirit.

What do Mormons believe about the Bible? Do they regard it as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Before coming on my mission, I only thought there was one version of the Bible, the King James. Then I got out here and I'm asked this question all the time along with "What version do you use?" We believe the Bible to be the word of God. It has gone through many many many translations and has unfortunately lost some of what was once precious. It's still such a fantastic book because it has so much in it that we wouldn't have if we just had the Book of Mormon. I love the Bible, especially the later epistles and the gospels. Are Mormons Christians?

Absolutely. Some people think that we're not, and that's just confusion and misunderstanding. We're most definitely Christians. Jesus Christ is the only way to make it back to Heavenly Father, and there is no other way. He died for us, and we must except him. The term "Christian" means that you're someone that excepts Jesus Christ, right? If so then we must be Christians. It's even in our church's name. Show more Show less
