Hi I'm Debbie

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm "almost" a senior Citizen, a wife of 38 years, mother of 5 married children and soon to be 12 grandchildren! I consider myself especially blessed to have my parents in my life, living only a few blocks from our home. What a cherished experience it is for me to have 3 of our 5 married children and 8 of our 12 grandchildren living within 8 miles of me! I get a LOT of grandma time each week, with soccer, baseball, volleyball games, school plays, etc.! Sundays wouldn't be the same without Sunday Dinner at Grandma and Papa's! Sunday dinner can be as small as 7 of us, but many Sundays include 19 of us!!! My FAVORITE HOBBY other than family is doing Geneology, and yes it really is addictive! Connecting to those who came before me has truly given me a greater appreciation for their lives, examples, sacrifices and tremendous loses many of them faced. I LOVE TRADITIONS! I'm teased that if mom does it once, it becomes a tradition! (a slight exagerateration!) Some of my favorites with our grandchildren include Grandma's Christmas sleepover; decorating a gingerbread house, baking cookies, delivering goodies to neighbors, playing games & sleeping by the fire. Also Grandma's Toenail painting parties with the older girls! A family favorite is the HUGE Grab Bag at Christmas! My husband and I search all year to find and wrap interesting, funny and sometimes great gifts that little ones take turns picking out for their family after the huge pile is dumped on the floor!

Why I am a Mormon

You only have to look at a sunrise, gaze across the Grand Canyon in the early evening, or drive through the New England countryside in the fall, to know that there is a God in Heaven who made this beautiful earth to give us joy and experiences. And you only need to read and ponder about the trials and faith of Lehi, or Nephi or Moroni with their timeless, inspired, insightful and wise counsel to know that within these pages of the Book of Mormon lie truths and wisdom for me today, yet written over 2 thousand years ago. Truth's have been restored, the Priesthood of God is the power to act in God's name and has been a priceless blessing in raising 5 children in a world of shifting values. The restored Gosptel of Jesus Christ has been an iron rod for me told on to, giving me the truths needed to discern and guide me through the trials and disappointments of life. The greatest source of peace and answers to the heartfelt prayers of my heart have been found within the Holy scriptures. The Book of Mormon, restored through the young Prophet Joseph Smith, is another Testament of Jesus Christ. Along with the New and Old Testament, The Doctrine and Covenants and Pearl of Great Price, you too can find the sources of lasting peace and answers for the trials of life for you and those you love.

How I live my faith

I take my baptismal covenants very seriously. Each Sunday as I partake of the sacrament I am given the opportunity to renew those covenants I made when only 8 years old. Those covenants are found in the Book of Mormon, Moroni Chapter 18, begininning with verse 8. I am reminded there that I have covenants with my Heavenly Father to "bear one another's burdons that they may be light", to "mourn with those that mourn" and to "comfort those that stand in need of comfort". I have made a covenant "to stand as a witness of God at ALL times, in ALL things, and in ALL places I may be in even until death". These scriptures have become my standard in which I try to live my life each day. My life has been "so blessed" as I have looked for opportunities to do as my Savior would if he were here. Opportunities are around us each day and you don't have to look far! It might be an neighbor who has lost a child, a neighbor who has cancer or who's child does. Maybe a devistated friend who has learned that their husband or child has taken their life. Sometimes it's a single mom or grandma raising their children or grandchildren alone. Sometimes it's a friend or neighbor whose child is pregnant or in jail. It may be a friend who has had surgery, who needs help with a fussy baby or is feeling overwhelmed with life. The opportunities to serve others are endless and I have so been blessed to play a minute part in helping to lift, to strengthen to comfort and stand with those around me.
