Hi I'm Sam

I'm an Idahoan. I love to sing, play the guitar, and listen to good music. I'm opinionated. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the 5th of 6 kids. I grew up in rural Idaho, and I love to hunt, hike, camp, and sit around a campfire. I have lived close to my extended family my whole life. I have about 100 first-cousins, and I LOVE it! Music has been a big part of my life since I was very young. I love to sing, especially art songs and some contemporary music. I have gone to one semester of college, where I studied music as a vocal performance major. I enjoy reading, theater, football, wrestling, disc golf, bowling and glowsticks. I'm a people person. I love history, geography, and world cultures. I collect foreign money and rocks.I really like to be right about everything, and sometimes it gets me into trouble. I really like word games, like Scrabble and Boggle, and I enjoy crosswords and word jumbles. I love life.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a mormon because the Spirit of God had born witness to my soul that the Book of Mormon is true. I know that Christ is the Savior, and that He and our Father appeared to a 14-year-old boy named Joseph Smith in the year 1820. I'm a mormon because the answer to that young man's faith-filled prayer began what the Bible calls "the restitution of all things." Simply, I am a member of His Church because it is true, and "there is no other name given nor any other way nor means whereby salvation can come unto the children of men, only in and through the name of Christ, the Lord Omnipotent."

How I live my faith

I have served as a secretary in the men's group of a singles branch, a small group of church members between the ages of 18 and 30 who meet together on Sundays for worship and frequently during the week for fellowship and faith-building activities. I have also served as a home teacher, visiting other church memebers who live near my home and sharing uplifting messages from the scriptures and church leader. I recently returned from a full-time mission, where I had the incredible opportunity to talk to everyone I met each day about the Savior, the scriptures, family, the purpose of life, God's plan, and the joy of living the Lord's commandments. I live my faith by trying each day to be a little better, to be a little more receptive to the whisperings of the Spirit, and I live it by loving and serving those around me. In short, I try to emulate the Savior and develop and show His perfect love to all people.

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

Sam
A testimony is knowledge that comes from the Comforter, the Spirit of God. It is the assurance that a principle or idea is eternal truth, and is confirmed as we act on that spirtual feeling. It can be as simple as a belief that someone is listening as we pray, or it can be as mature as knowing that God will answer our specific requests in prayer. A testimony is the result of acting in faith on a feeling or desire to believe. The Holy Ghost can give us a greater comfirmation of spiritual knowledge than any amount of physical evidence or outward manifestation. Show more Show less
