Hi I'm Susan

I'm a Mormon. I'm a wife, mother and artist. I teach art in a community college.

About Me

I am the mother of 4 wonderful children. I completed an MFA in painting so I could teach college which I am doing now. In between I have worked as a seamstress, draftsman (on the World Trade Center project), fabric designer, preschool teacher, substitute teacher, behavioral health specialist, charter school teacher and adjunct college teacher. I love art but my most important work still is being a mother. I have five grandchildren too. My children and husband are all active members of the church.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a fifth generation Mormon with deep pioneer roots. I have had a deep belief in God since I was small but read the Book of Mormon as a youth to gain a testimony for myself. Most important is the certainty that Jesus Christ lives and cares about me personally. I have developed a testimony of many gospel principles by living them steadfastly and realizing the blessings of obedience. Fortunately, I have had exceptional, influential religious teachers throughout my life.

How I live my faith

I have been teaching in church since I was a teenager and have held many callings in the church. I grew up in an area where there were few other Mormons except my family in my everyday life and learned to appreciate friends of many religions. My first official missionary experience was participating in the Palmyra pageant when I was 17. As an adult I filled a full time mission for the church as a Spanish language missionary. I have organized events and workshops for members and investigators of the church and taught adults, children, youth and women of the church. I attend a Spanish language branch now and serve as a chorister and leader in the organization for women.
