Hi I'm Melissa.

I once lived on an island. I ran my first half marathon in Central Park...in the pouring rain. I love chocolate. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in southern California as the eldest child in my family. My parents joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when I was a baby. I am the first member of my family to be baptized at the age of eight years old. I attended college in my hometown and then married my sweetheart. After college graduation, I pursued further education and earned a master degree in education. During my career in education I have had the privilege to teach kindergarten, first and second grades. A few years after marriage, my husband began medical school which took us to Grenada, West Indies for two years followed by two years in the city so nice they named it twice - New York, New York. We are now living out west where my husband is a pediatric resident and I am currently looking for a job. Somehow everything is working out and nothing is working the way we planned...and we are having the time of our lives!

Why I am a Mormon

Being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has greatly blessed my life. I believe that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the only true church on the face of the Earth today. The gospel of Jesus Christ has been restored. We are lead by a modern day prophet who has been chosen by our Heavenly Father to help us understand the gospel so that we can live in such a way that we can be found worthy to return to our heavenly home. Our loving Heavenly Father provided us with a Savior, his son Jesus Christ, to suffer for the sins and pains of our mortal existence. Through Jesus Christ we can repent and our sins can be forgiven. During times of grief and pain we can turn to Him for comfort as He has felt it all. Jesus Christ was the perfect example of how we should pattern our lives - hope, faith, and charity. Knowing that I have a Heavenly Father and Savior who love me, my life has purpose and meaning. During times of disappointment or when I feel burdened by the trials of my life, I know where I can turn for peace. The gospel of Jesus Christ provides happiness and joy that is everlasting.

How I live my faith

My membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is woven into my daily life. Each day I pray to my Heavenly Father and make time for personal scripture study. During the week my husband and I participate in visiting other members and people in our community who are interested in the church to provide support and service to them. Each month I visit three women from church in their homes to share the gospel, develop friendships, and to provide relief when necessary. I enjoy participating in service projects sponsored by the church such as cooking meals, cleaning, making blankets, and assembling care packages.
