Hi I'm Mike

I'm a conductor, a music educator, a teacher, a family man and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I received a Bachelor, Masters and Doctorate degree in Music Education and taught in the public schools for 30 years. I have served in many professional organizations including President of the state band and orchestra directors association. I was honored to receive numerous teaching awards including our state's "Music Educator of the Year Award" and my university's "Alumni of the Year Award". In addition I founded and continue to conduct a "professional" wind ensemble which is recognized as one of the finest adult musical ensembles in the nation. I am married and we will celebrate our 40th anniversary this year. We have three daughters and 7 grandchildren. My wife and I love to travel and visit beautiful and interesting places. I love photography, particularly landscape and floral scenes. I am an avid sports fan.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church and attended regularly with my family as I was growing up. I can never remember not believing it was true. That does not mean that I haven't "investigated" the teachings of the church. I have read all the scriptures numerous times and have been blessed with a peace and understanding that convinces me they are true. This is especially so with the Book of Mormon. As I have tried to live the teachings and principles of the gospel I have received a witness that this is how are Father in Heaven would have us live.

How I live my faith

I have tried to live my faith by serving and helping others. That is one of the main reasons I chose to be a music educator for my profession. It is rewarding to help others grow and learn and to see the changes that take place in their lives. I also have served as a Sunday school teacher and choir director in my local congregation for many years. I have done this without pay or remuneration because of my love for sacred music and my love for the gospel. I currently serve as the "Bishop" or "minister" of our local congregation. In this capacity I assist church members in a variety of ways; spiritually, emotionally, and physically. It is extremely rewarding to serve and assist them in their times of trial and need; to share their joys and sorrows; and to grow to love them.
