Hi I'm Katie Simmons

I am a devoted wife. I am a marriage and family studies major. I am a lot like you, but a little different. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a 22 year old BYU-Idaho online student who has a passion for advocating for the family! My major is Marriage and Family Studies. I really do love the family unit and I realize it's importance, especially in the world today! I want to be a great influence as a wife and someday mother and this degree can help with that! I received my associates degree in high school, so I have about 3 semesters left of BYU-Idaho. After much contemplation, an awesome spiritual experience, and having my desires align with God's will, I made the choice of serving a full-time (18 month) mission for others and our Heavenly Father. I served faithfully in the Nebraska Omaha Mission (Nov 2013-May 2015). I feel grateful for the opportunity I took to serve, teach, and love the wonderful people of Nebraska (and Iowa) and help them in their journey to come unto Christ and know for themselves His plan for them. My faith and testimony of God as Our Father and especially the Atonement of Jesus Christ grew tremendously while on the mission. I thought it was a sacrifice to leave all these worldly things behind and serve... boy, was I wrong. Serving a mission with singleness of heart and mind has become the greatest blessing! Well, until my sweetheart and I were sealed for not only time, but for eternity in the Seattle, Washington LDS Temple. This was such a sweet experience for me! There is nobody else I'd want to spend forever with than my husband.

Why I am a Mormon

It's true, my parents raised me in an LDS home. No, that is not why I am LDS. I chose to learn and live the gospel. Even when I am out of the house now, I have chosen and desire to never stray from the restored gospel of Jesus Christ our Savior. Line upon line I have always known this gospel is true. Through observing the choices others have made and where those choices have gotten them, this has always made both logical sense and a feeling of peace. For example, the Word of Wisdom and the Strength for Youth pamphlet has wonderful guidelines to keep us safe from the adversary and closer to Jesus. All the rules have a beautiful purpose. The gracious, sacrifice of the atonement by our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus the Christ, is real. It was for every living soul that will humble himself and come unto Him. His love is so pure and strong, that He has provided a way for us to be with our most cherished relationship in heaven. Through His holy temple, we can be worthy enough to be sealed to our spouse for all time and eternity. Our families can be together forever and always. Honestly, I have no doubt that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the only church today here on the earth with the fullness of truth from our Savior. Maybe instead of wondering why you should learn more about this church, maybe you could ask yourself why you shouldn't? What do you have to lose? I see no harm in becoming the best person you could be in radiating love and light and being the happiest person that the gospel can bring. Is it the easiest thing to be LDS? No, but I can guarantee it's worth it.

How I live my faith

Daily I pray, read my scriptures (Holy Bible/Book of Mormon), and try to be like Jesus Christ. I attend church every Sunday to partake of the sacrament and renew the covenants I made with our Heavenly Father when I chose to be baptized. Daily, I live by Christ's standards that uplift me and those around me with compassion, cleanliness, and courage to do what is true to Him. Why do I strive to keep the commandments and do these "things"? It all comes down to love. Love for my Savior and for my fellowmen. God said, "If ye love me, keep my commandments." As I strive to live the restored gospel of faith, repentance, keeping promises I've made to God, and loving others (myself included), I've only seen blessings and good things come from these actions. On the flip side, when I mess up... I feel sorrow. It brings me so much JOY that I can go to Heavenly Father through prayer and ask for forgiveness then get up off my knees and make wrongs right! My sins are washed away and I am redeemed through the mercy, grace, and love of the sacrifice of Christ. I left my wonderful parents, friends, family, home ward, postponed my educational pursuits, and other things I hold near to my heart for 18 months because I know the Savior lives and He made the ultimate sacrifice that I may be saved. I also chose to give up so much for this time because I wanted to teach/help others God's plan for them that they may have the joy I have and come to know for themselves that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is Christ's church once again restored to the Earth. We have a prophet once again, we have another witness of Jesus Christ - The Book of Mormon (read it!)... It's all true!
