Hi I'm Leon

I'm an outdoorsman, I'm an actor, I'm a technician, I'm a Type 1 Diabetic, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love the outdoors, I don't get out enough anymore, but I go any chance I get. I'm a technician, At the age of 6 my parents had a broken phone & replaced it. I asked them why they didn't fix it & they gave it to me to play with. I fixed it, it made sense to me. I have a largely varied set of interests, but I'm very picky & particular. I like theatre, I've performed in a long list of Community Theatre shows & currently perform at a local Renaissance Festival every year. I work with an Independent Film Company. I don't like a lot of things that "Every" theatre person likes though. I don't understand why everyone likes Cats for example. I like sports, I like to play Basketball, Football, Volleyball, etc, but I don't enjoy watching sports, though If I'm with friends I can enjoy anything. I've done a lot of Rock Climbing & Caving (Spelunking). I like some geeky things, but always feel that my interests are too narrow to fit in in a geek crowd. I like computers, but I don't like gaming, though I do enjoy a few games. I've found a recent interest in certain Anime, introduced by friends, but I find most of it weird. I like geeky TV, but I'll pass on Star Trek. Mostly I like foreign TV, Canada, UK, Australia but I only watch TV while doing something else.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was younger I thought I was Mormon because my parents were. As I got older I realized that you aren't Mormon because you go to church, or because you were baptized, or even because you have a temple recommend. You're only a Mormon if you accept the teachings of the church to be true & try your hardest to live the commandments. One of our favorite quotes in the church is "Endure To The End" that's what makes me a Mormon, though I mess up, quite often, I get back up & keep on Enduring.

How I live my faith

I try mostly to be a good example, My personal feeling is that when you turn everything into an ad for the church people get annoyed & stop listening. I think it's better to share what people are ready to hear as opposed to forcing it upon them.

What is the Church’s position on abortion?

Leon
The Church is opposed to abortion. Most people know this, but few know or even consider why. There's the standard "Life Is Precious" answer that most Christians will give but there's more to it. When I was in High School I had a friend who knew a bit about the church & what we believe. She had a problem with what she believed was a contradiction between The Church's belief in Agency & it's opposition to the "Pro Choice" stance on abortion. Using the principles of the Church that I knew, I figured out the flaw in her assumption. Pregnancy is the CONSEQUENCE of a choice. The CHOICE was made before. To explain the concept I used a 'parable', “The Parable Of The Hamburger” I call it. Eating a hamburger is a choice. That choice has a consequence. About 350 of them. If I CHOOSE to eat ten, 350 calorie hamburgers every day, that’s 3,500 calories. A CONSEQUENCE of that choice is that I am most likely going to gain weight. I can’t choose at that point, AFTER eating them, to make the choice to not accept those calories. The same rules apply everywhere else. I didn't know at the time the specifics of the Church's Official Answer as stated here, but, in talking to my friend, concluded that the church would not fault an abortion that was the result of rape, since the choice was never there to make. The world today likes to discount consequences to separate them from the actual choices, but when you look closely the truth is always there. Show more Show less
