Hi I'm Alyson

I grew up in a family off all girls, and now I have a family of all boys. I inherited a passion for learning. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

In high school I was on the speech team and in the drama club. I have always enjoyed the Arts. I attended BYU and met my husband there. Five years ago I married that Star Wars nerd that gave me directions back to my dorm. Since marriage in the temple we have been pregnant 5 times, but only have two living children. Both of my children have had complications that have landed them in the NICU shortly after birth. Our first five years of marriage have not been easy. Despite this we have had so much joy in our home. I am a firm believer that faith and good humor can get you through anything in this life. My husband has a great sense of humor and is one of my greatest supports. He works hard to ensure that I can have the opportunity to be a stay-at-home mom to our two little boys. I spend my days with my boys, talking, teaching, taking walks, visiting the library, reading, singing, dancing, and doing what most mom's do (like clean). I enjoy singing in the shower, learning new skills (like painting, sewing, and cake decorating), and I also enjoy keeping up on recent medical research. It's my dream to one day get my bachelors and become a teacher.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in this church, but that's not why I still choose to be a member. I choose to be a member because I believe in God, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost. I believe that a loving Father in Heaven wouldn't leave us without a prophet today to deliver His word to us; To help guide us as we navigate the treacherous terrain of life in a world so full of harmful traps. Satan is real and is working (in real time) to bring souls away from our Heavenly Father. Why then wouldn't Heavenly Father work (in real time) declaring his word through his prophets to keep and bring more souls unto him? In the past there have been prophets upon the earth to help guide us, why not today? We have a bi-annual (April and October) meeting called "General Conference" when we have the opportunity to hear from our prophet and the leadership of the church. Each General Conference is different and I always hear something that I feel I was meant to at that time in my life. Through the power of the Holy Ghost I have felt the peace and joy that the teachings of Jesus Christ have brought to my life. The Book of Mormon, the Bible, and the words of our prophets today all testify of Christ, and encourage us to follow Him and the example he has set. If it (this church, the Book of Mormon, the words of our prophet) were not true this continuity of the Lord's teachings would not exist.

How I live my faith

We have daily family scripture study, and family prayer in our home. Sometimes it can be difficult to accomplish with two small boys, but we make it a point to do it consistently so that they will learn the importance of it. Every day I look for "teaching moments" with my kiddos. It helps that my three year old is extremely inquisitive and asks me questions about everything. In church I serve as a meeting planner for the sisters in our ward. We have monthly meetings on a week day where we focus on a specific subject, like canning, emergency preparedness, family history (genealogy), etc. I enjoy working to build relationships with the sisters in our ward through these meetings. Mostly, I think I live my life and my faith at the same time. I don't go around with a big sign on my forehead telling everyone about my faith. I just try to live as my Heavenly Father would have me. I don't drink coffee, or alcohol. I don't swear, and I always try to smile. Typically these are a tip off to others that I'm a bit peculiar, and likely. . . .a Mormon.
