Hi I'm Courtney

I'm an optimist. I'm a writer and artist. I'm a missionary. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a small town with a bright red mountain and brilliant blue skies. Ever since I was little I loved creating stories, and now writing is one of my passions; I have finished a few short stories, have more started, and dozens of poems. For as long as I can remember, I have enjoyed art, whether it be drawing, painting, pastels, sculpture, ect... but it wasn't until high school and a great teacher that I found that it was something that, if I kept at, I could do well. One more thing, I love to smile and be positive. I figure life is too precious to waste dwelling on our troubles when God has given us so much! Lately my motto has been "Life is good, now find out why" :) The reasons are everywhere, it's unbelievable! Asside from my hobbies, I grew up with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in my life. Up until six life was with me and my mom-I never knew my dad. After that my mom married and I was able to have a dad. Times became hard and by the time I graduated high school my parents were divorced. It was definitely difficult, one of the hardest things I've ever been through, but I don't regret it. The trial that lasted most of my life, and sometimes still pops up, brought me a close relationship with God, my Father in Heaven, and taught me that no matter what is going on in family, there is always a father who loves me. Through Him there is hope. There is peace, comfort, guidance, knowledge, and truth. There is happiness and joy.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because I have come to know that it is true. It's true that I was raised a member, but it has definitely been a choice to stay and I love that. Because I have been told from the scriptures that “from their fruits ye shall know them”, and the gospel has proven to give the greatest of fruits. I know the Book of Mormon is the truest of books and works with the Bible to give us answers to any questions that we have. The church brings me a happiness I don't know how I could live without. I love to smile. I love to be silly, to run around in grass, gaze at the stars, and just giggle because it feels good. When the day isn't quite so hyper, to just smile and mean it, and when there is no other reason to do those things, the gospel gives me one. It helps me to understand that I have a father in heaven who loves me far more than I can imagine, and who will never stop loving me, who will never leave me. And then also that he loves everyone around me in the same way, because they are His children and He would do anything to help them. The church is true. There is a living prophet today to guide and direct us. We are never alone, there is always a shoulder to cry on. I have prayed and asked if it is true and felt in my heart that it is. I still have experiences like that where I feel His spirit testifying that it is all true. I know anyone can have that blessing also if you sincerely seek and ask.

How I live my faith

I am currently living my faith by serving in the Pennsylvania Pittsburgh Mission for eighteen months. This is something I have dreamt about doing my whole life and am thrilled to be doing it now, to share what has brought me the most joy and peace and knowledge than anything else. I always try to represent Jesus Christ the best I can- serving others, studying the scriptures, praying, and asking for forgiveness when I mess up. I strive to always rely on my Savior, to constantly pray for His guidance.

In whom should we have faith?

We should have faith in Heavenly Father, and His son, Jesus Christ. To have faith in them is to trust them with our lives and know that they will be there for us and will help us. Heavenly Father and Jesus want us to be happy, it is their very reason for everything they have, are still doing, and will do. Moses 1:39 "For behold, this is my work and my glory-to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man." Heavenly Father rejoices in our happiness. Heavenly Father knows that the only way for us to be eternally happy is to follow His commandments and to live faithfully, so He has given us the restored gospel, prayer, temples, and other things to help us to do so. He has given eternal families, the beautiful world we live in, a way out of our trials, and many other blessings. I know if we have faith in Him who has given us all and wants us to be happy, He can give us more, and when life gets hard and what seems to be too difficult to handle, He will guide us, comfort us, and help us through. He is a God of miracles and wants to bless us, all we have to do is ask in faith. I have learned this for myself. For as long as I can remember, when life became so hard I know longer knew what to do, when I felt scared and alone, I would pray to my Father in Heaven in faith, and He was always there to comfort me and carry me through.
