Hi I'm Lona

I'm a Sweetie, Mom, Grandma, Quilter, Cookie Lady, Arizonan, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a native Arizonan, raised in the gospel by two wonderful parents, and I have 5 incredible siblings and a Navajo foster sister. I am my husband's Sweetie and we have been married for 35 years. We are best friends, still madly in love, and my favorite place to be is by his side. We have been blessed with 6 amazing children. We have 12 grandchildren, including one angel baby boy and one granddaughter that is adopted into another family. I love to sing in the ward choir; go fishing with my husband; I collect nativity sets and small ceramic boxes with lids; I enjoy getting lost in a good book and I love English movies; I love to vegetable garden and do yard work; I love to make cookies and am called The Cookie Lady by some; I love being a grandma to my Peanuts; I enjoy cross stitching and sewing, and I love to quilt, but my favorite part is piecing the top together. I had a goal to have 50 quilts made by the time I was 50 years old, and I did it! I am a stay at home mom and my days are filled with service to my family and ward. I also love being a piano instructor.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into this church but I had to find out for myself that it is the Lord's Church. I love the Bible, but I also love the Book of Mormon. When I prayed about the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon and got my answer that it was true - everything else just made sense and I have embraced it. I love that we have a prophet on the earth to guide us, especially in these difficult times. But most of all I love belonging to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I love everything that it is and has to offer. I love the blessings of the temple, especially that families are sealed together for eternity. When our grandson passed away our hearts ached but we knew that our daughter and son-in-law would be with their baby again someday because of the sealing blessings of the temple. Nothing is more precious to me than to know that I am sealed to my husband and family for eternity. I have learned that Father in Heaven is so intimately involved in our lives. I am so happy to be a Mormon - it gives me everything I need, it blesses my life and it makes me happy!

How I live my faith

My religion is an everyday way of life. I am the happiest when I follow the Savior's example. The commandments are wonderful blessings of guidance that help me and strengthen me to be better each day. My parents are great examples of service and we have tried to teach our children that same example - that as we serve others we find ourselves and are happy. I love serving in the church. I have loved serving the young women as advisor, counselor and YW president; the women as Relief Society president, and the children as a teacher, counselor and music pianist and chorister . I love the scriptures and read every day and try to do what is right. I try to follow the guidance of the Holy Ghost throughout each day. We all have the spirit of Christ, but the gift of the Holy Ghost is given after we are baptized into this church. My father, who holds the priesthood, and has the authority to do so, laid his hands on my head and gave this gift to me. If I live right and keep the commandments I will be worthy to have the Holy Ghost with me to guide, inspire, comfort, and protect me. I depend on this guidance every day.
