Hi I'm Ellyn

I'm a hiker, a swim teacher, a musician, a sports fanatic, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a single girl that just plain loves to have fun! After working as a swimming instructor to put myself through school, I graduated with a BS in Exercise Science. I am currently working in an eye clinic, but plan on eventually returning to get my Masters in public health. I love working with people, and getting the opprotunity to hear about other's lives and experiences. I spent a few years living in Montana, and developed an appreciation of the outdoors. I love backpacking, fishing, and playing sports along with being an avid college football fan. In my spare time I also enjoy reading, playing the piano, and am currently attempting to learn how to play the guitar.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a very faith-oriented LDS home. My parents both joined the church when they were teenagers and both knew how important it was for their children to be taught good principles so that we could have a sure foundation to turn to if and when we faced life's challenges. Growing up I relied upon the faith of my parents and older siblings. I did what I was supposed to do because that was what was asked of me. When I moved out and went off to school, I came to the realization that although I had grown up with the knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ I had never truly been converted. I had never really taken the time to find out for myself if the church was true. As I began to read and study the Book of Mormon and the words of the latter-day prophets, I began to have a better understanding of their teachings and their application in my personal life. As I applied their teachings in my life I began to feel that I was developing a relationship with my Savior, that He really knew me and cared about me. I came to understand the Atonement of Jesus Christ and that He suffered and died for each of God's children, but most importantly I understood that He suffered and died for me. I used to follow the teaching of the Church because that's what my parents taught me to do, but now I live these teachings because I know that by doing so I can eventually return to live with my Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ someday.

How I live my faith

I'm in a stage of life that most would call the "me" stage. Years 18-30 are the years when we are discovering who we are and what we want to do with our lives. As a young-single adult, I've discovered that it's good to take a little time out of my "me, me, me" schedule, and to focus my concentration on others. Sometimes it’s a formal community service project with my friends but often times I just strive to look for the little things that people need. I have been the recipient of so many people's kindness throughout my life, I feel the least I can do is to show that same kindness and love to others. Within the church I help to plan activities for the women in our congregation, and I absolutely love it! It's awesome to be able to talk about and live the gospel of Christ as it pertains to women in particular as we spend time playing and learning together. It is inspiring to be able to see how much God loves His daughters and to help them to come to that realization as well. During the week I also attend a class called Institute. Institute is an opportunity to gather with others and to dive a little deeper into the scriptures. As I've attended insitute I've been able to share and to learn from others insights and knowledge of the scriptures. It has also helped me to better understand the teachings and the connection between the Bible, the Book of Mormon, and the teachings of the latter-day prophets.
