Hi I'm Derek

I'm a Mormon. I am a husband and father of five children. I own and operate a landscaping business.

About Me

I enjoy raising farm animals with my children (pigs, cows, chickens, goats and turkeys). I was a secondary school math teacher for almost ten years before starting my own landscaping business. I enjoy reading books and watching interesting movies. Tom Clancy and the Dragon Lance series of books by Tracy Hickman are a couple of my favorites. I love to vacation with my family and friends anywhere near beaches and waves. Boogie-boarding in the waves at the beach is one of my favorite activities. I also enjoy hunting with good friends and family.

Why I am a Mormon

I know the Book of Mormon is true. I know the bible is true. I know Joseph Smith was chosen by God to restore truth, which had been lost, to the Earth. These three truths have brought me closer to my Father in Heaven and His son Jesus Christ. Because of these truths I choose to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I choose to be Mormon because I have found faith, peace and comfort in the teachings of the church and its practices.

How I live my faith

I serve in the church by working with the boy scouts (12-13 year old boys). We tackle merit badges, tell corny jokes around camp fires and enjoy the outdoors as the scouts and I learn to be trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent (the scout law). It has been a rewarding experience to be a part of the growth and maturing of these boys as they grow into good young men. This is one way I live my faith and serve others.

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

I believe that salvation comes only through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. Without His sacrifice and merciful grace all would be lost and forever fallen. Show more Show less
